He said the deployed units include special forces, rapid reaction, special operations, mechanized and artillery units, fully supported for their mission. Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which coordinates the country’s unified military command, stated that the United States had decided to resume operations against Iran, and cautioned regional states against participating in any such action. The heightened posture comes just days after President Donald Trump told Axios he is nearing a pivotal decision point in the nearly seven-month-old war with Iran. Trump said he is weighing whether to launch a full-scale assault aimed at eliminating the Iranian regime, describing it as a major decision that could go either way. His comments came ahead of a planned Tuesday meeting in New York with leaders of six Gulf states — Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman — on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, a meeting expected to shape Washington’s next steps.
Since early September, U.S. military operations against Iran have been largely paused, with Washington instead relying on a naval blockade of Iranian ports, expanded sanctions, and efforts to secure safer commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has previously suggested the conflict could conclude shortly after November’s U.S. midterm elections, citing Iran’s diminishing capacity to sustain the fight.
Analysts Skeptical of Iranian Ground Capability
Despite the scale of the deployment, defense analysts have expressed doubt that Iran could mount an effective conventional ground offensive against U.S. forces or regional bases even if hostilities escalate, citing Iran’s traditional reliance on irregular warfare tactics and limited capacity to project conventional forces at scale.
