NEW DELHI — Authorities in India have arrested two Nigerian women, 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye, after intercepted contraband estimated to be worth Rs 20 crore (approximately ₦380 million) was recovered from their possession.
The suspects were taken into custody by the Special Staff of the Railway Unit and police personnel during an intensive anti-narcotics patrol at Platform No. 1 of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in New Delhi.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) B. Bharat Reddy, security teams spotted the two women carrying luggage and acting suspiciously, prompting an immediate search under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the search, officers recovered 11 sealed packets containing approximately 2.28 kilograms of commercial-grade cocaine. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts dispatched to the scene subsequently confirmed the nature and weight of the substance.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects collected the narcotics from the Vikaspuri area in West Delhi and were attempting to transport the illicit cargo to Mumbai as part of an interstate drug trafficking network operating between Delhi-NCR and Maharashtra.
Indian law enforcement authorities have confiscated the travel passports of both suspects, remanded them into custody, and launched further investigations to track the financial trail and identify additional syndicate members connected to the drug network.
