BAUCHI — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the horrific deaths of two young children in separate incidents across Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas, events that have thrown the affected communities into deep mourning.
Spokesman for the Command, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed the developments to newsmen in Bauchi, expressing grief over the tragic loss of the two young lives.
According to the police spokesperson, the first incident occurred in Kwaimawa community within Alkaleri Local Government Area, where a six-year-old boy, Mubarak Ibrahim, was allegedly poisoned by his 23-year-old stepmother, Fatima Ibrahim.
The victim began vomiting uncontrollably shortly after consuming a drink provided by the suspect. He was initially rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kwaimawa before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe. Medical personnel battled for eight days to save the child, but he succumbed on October 24, 2026.
Detectives arrested the stepmother following a report filed by the Village Head of Kwaimawa. She remains in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate incident in Zaila community, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, a five-year-old girl, Habiba Abubakar, was reported missing by her grandfather after she failed to return to her aunt’s residence in Zaila village.
A search by community members ended tragically at dawn on October 24, 2026, when her lifeless body was discovered inside a water pit behind the village.
Police operatives attached to the Soro Division cordoned off the scene and subsequently arrested a 19-year-old suspect, Sadiku Musa, a resident of the same community, in connection with the crime.
Both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.
Reacting to the incidents, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the acts as heartbreaking and inhuman, promising that the command would ensure complete justice for both victims while extending condolences to the bereaved families.
The police command also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to maintain heightened vigilance over children and report suspicious movements to security agencies promptly.
