OSOGBO — Severe tension has gripped Osogbo, the Osun State capital, following reports that heavily armed security personnel in over ten black Hilux vehicles surrounded the private residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, early Saturday morning.
According to statements issued by campaign officials and local community sources, occupants inside the Speaker’s compound were allegedly barred from entering or exiting the premises as armed operatives established a firm perimeter around the property. The specific government agency or law enforcement unit conducting the operation, as well as the official mandate behind the raid, remains unverified.
Spokespersons for the Imole Campaign Council disclosed that efforts to contact senior police commanders and the Police Situation Room to ascertain the reason for the siege yielded no immediate response. The council subsequently issued a public statement calling on federal security authorities to clarify the operation and ensure that law enforcement agencies maintain strict neutrality.
The incident unfolds as voters across Osun State head to the polls today for the governorship election. Civic groups, community leaders, and political stakeholders have appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid panic, and cooperate with electoral guidelines as official clarifications are awaited.
