KATSINA, NIGERIA — The National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have formally declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.
The endorsement event took place at the Gwagware Foundation in Katsina, drawing union leadership and representatives from across the seven North-West states.
Accepting the endorsement, Governor Radda expressed gratitude to the unions and attributed their support to aggressive infrastructure expansion and transport sector reforms executed by both the state and federal governments.
“NURTW and NARTO play a very significant role in the progress of our people. We appreciate you for coming to Katsina to endorse Mr. President and my candidature,” Radda said. He noted that the state’s Ministry of Works holds one of the largest budget allocations in Katsina to ensure continuous urban renewal, road dualisation, and connectivity across local government headquarters.
Speaking on behalf of NARTO’s National President, Alhaji Lawal Yusuf Othman, Deputy National President Prince Ganiyu Atanda Salami stated that the decision was driven by visible achievements in road infrastructure and transportation management. Prince Salami also requested soft loans and credit facilities to assist transport operators in upgrading their fleets.
In response, Governor Radda assured union executives that a closed-door meeting would be convened to address their requests for operational vehicles and financing support.
Katsina State Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, highlighted key projects under the current administration, including the procurement of modern buses for the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA), as well as the construction of new terminals, bus stops, and maintenance workshops.
Adding to the commendations, NURTW Chairman for Katsina State and the Northern Region, Alhaji Musa Garba Yandoma, cited accomplishments in local government autonomy, smart school construction, and urban renewal while presenting an Award of Recognition to the Governor.
The event was attended by top government functionaries, including Deputy Governor Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, business mogul Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, members of the National and State Assemblies, and traditional leaders.
