KATSINA, NIGERIA — Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Saturday flagged off the distribution of multimillion-naira medical supplies, consumables, and operational equipment to General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
The ceremonial distribution, held at the Salihu Malle Central Medical Stores in Katsina, included two shipping containers of medical consumables donated by international non-governmental organization Baitulmaal, valued at approximately $1.5 million. Additionally, hospital equipment worth roughly $200,000 was deployed through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP) Programme.
Expressing gratitude to the donors, Governor Radda commended Baitulmaal’s ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes in the state and recognized the technical teams involved in clearing and delivering the consignments.
“This support is not for individuals,” Governor Radda emphasized during his address. “It is support given to the government to enable us better serve vulnerable people who come to our hospitals and health facilities in search of care.” He directed all management boards of the beneficiary health facilities to safeguard, maintain, and efficiently utilize the items.
Speaking on behalf of the donor organization, Baitulmaal Leader Dr. Ahmed Ali Khalil affirmed that the consignment marks the start of an expanded long-term partnership with Katsina State, spanning healthcare supply chains and wider developmental initiatives.
State Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, noted that Katsina secured the federal SWAP intervention by meeting performance benchmarks and compliance requirements under national health-sector reform guidelines.

Providing further details on state healthcare initiatives, the Executive Secretary of the Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA), Pharmacist Fatima Shuaibu, disclosed that the state government has released ₦115 million under the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) Project.
