BAMAKO, MALI — The Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) militant group has released a third propaganda video documenting its destructive April 25 assault on the strategic northern city of Kidal.
The publication of the new footage has raised concerns among security analysts regarding the group’s evolving capabilities and heavy weaponry in the Sahel region.
Heavy Weaponry and Scale Documented
The video begins with scenes of coordinated mortar fire directed at security installations within the city. Unlike previous lower-scale insurgent operations, this footage shows dozens of militants executing a synchronized tactical maneuver.
Furthermore, the video captures the group utilizing functional armoured vehicles during the assault. This development indicates a substantial acquisition of high-tier military hardware, likely seized from regional military bases during previous confrontations.
Escalating Threat in the Sahel
Security experts state that the release of three separate video segments from a single operation is a deliberate media strategy aimed at projecting regional dominance.
The coordination and firepower displayed in the footage underscore the growing operational capacity of JNIM, posing a direct threat to stabilization efforts in northern Mali. Regional military authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the newly released footage.
