ABUJA, NIGERIA — Tensions reached a boiling point during ongoing national security demonstrations as an aggrieved mother rained heavy curses on President Bola Tinubu, contrasting the lavish lifestyle of the First Family with the horrific conditions of abducted children trapped in terrorist camps.
The viral outburst occurred during a mass demonstration by distraught parents, labor unions, and civil society actors protesting the recent parallel mass school kidnappings in Borno and Oyo States.
A Mother’s Raw Fury
The protest, fueled by days of rain-drenched vigils, turned highly volatile when the mother, weeping and surrounded by a crowd of sympathizers, directly attacked the presidency’s perceived insensitivity to the ongoing hostage crisis.
“We’re tired, we’re no longer scared of you,” the mother yelled out during the demonstration. “It will not be well with you! Your son Seyi is going to Ojude Oba while our own children are suffering inside the bush!”
The mention of Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, participating in high-profile cultural festivities like the annual Ojude Oba festival while primary and secondary school pupils endure starvation and harsh weather elements in dense forest enclaves, has resonated deeply across the country. The video has sparked widespread condemnation of the political class’s apparent detachment from the daily trauma of ordinary Nigerians.
Mass Protests Intensify Across the Federation
The mother’s public declaration reflects a broader, militant shift in public sentiment. Citizens are increasingly ignoring security warnings and taking to the streets to demand tactical military interventions.
The nationwide demonstrations, heavily backed by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), have completely halted academic activities in major high-risk zones. The movement has grown larger following recent security breaches in Oyo State, including a daring weapons heist at the Ogbomoso Immigration Office and the brazen daylight kidnapping of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu’s sister and twin sons in Ibadan.
A Government Corroded by Public Distrust
The presidency is facing an unprecedented wave of public fury. While security agencies claim that covert tactical units are actively tracing the kidnappers’ coordinates, the public remains deeply cynical.
Critics point out that while state governors—such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori—publicly declare that delivering President Tinubu’s political interests is more important than governance, the foundational safety of Nigerian citizens is being entirely neglected. Security analysts warn that if the federal government fails to secure the immediate, unconditional release of the school children in Borno and Oyo, the current wave of civilian unrest could spiral into a full-scale national shutdown.
