A Social Critic and Human Rights Activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme on Thursday revealed that he has commenced a 14-day self imposed hunger strike in far away Onitsha in Anambra state, in protest against the abduction of teachers, students and pupils from a school in Oyo state.
Ezekwueme, Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization CLO, Anambra State Branch, in a press statement titled: “Activist commences 14-day hunger strike over abduction of teachers, pupils and students in Oyo state”, said the reason for embarking on the hunger strike was an act of solidarity with the excruciating sufferings, agony and pains being endured by the abducted citizens, their parents, siblings, families, and all compassionate Nigerians who desire their unconditional release.
He further stated that another reason for the action is to draw the urgent attention of the abductors to the call for unconditional release of all victims, adding that it is also a direct appeal to government at all tiers and security agencies to expedite action toward securing the safe and unconditional return of the abducted persons.
He therefore made a passionately appeal to Nigerians to uphold the dignity, sanctity and sacredness of human life, which he described as the image of God and also for repentance of perpetrators.
According to the activist, “I most passionately appeal to perpetrators of this dastardly act to repent and renounce such heinous crimes, adding, it is of great relevance for all tiers of governments to improve the security architecture of our dear country”.
Ezekwueme who recalled this
is not the first time he embarked on this kind self-sacrifice to demand justice, stated that previously, he had embarked on similar hunger strikes during the annulment of the June 12 election, and the abductions of Chibok and Dapchi school children.
“The Civil Liberties Organization, Anambra State Branch, calls on the Federal Government, Oyo and Kwara State Governments, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS and all relevant security agencies to prioritize the rescue of the victims and restore confidence in the safety of schools across the country”.
“I equally appeal to governments at all levels to beef up security around various schools in the country for safety and adequate security of students”, said Ezekwueme.
