DUTSE, Nigeria — In a major political mobilization ahead of the 2027 presidential election, over 500 Islamic scholars, preachers, and clerics from across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
The endorsement was formalized following high-level closed-door consultations at the Northern Muslim Intellectual Forum, held at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, New Secretariat in Dutse, Jigawa State.
High-Level Political Engagement in Dutse
The strategic summit convened top northern political leaders alongside influential religious leaders to assess security, infrastructure, and socio-economic developments across Northern Nigeria:
- Key Administration Representatives: The gathering was spearheaded by Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, alongside Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma.
- Northern Governors’ Presence: Regional executive leadership was represented by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
- Broad Clerical Representation: Attendees included Sheikhs, Imams, Qur’anic scholars (Huffaz), and Islamic preachers from all sub-regions of the North.
Resolutions and Basis for Endorsement
Reading the communiqué following the session, administration representatives and forum leaders cited key metrics behind the unanimous vote of confidence:
- Security Progress: Participants commended ongoing counter-insurgency and tactical efforts that have improved security conditions in parts of the North-West and North-East, including Kaduna, Katsina, and Sokoto states, while urging sustained operations in Niger and Zamfara.
- Infrastructure Commitments: The forum highlighted federal investments in critical regional transport corridors, notably the ongoing rehabilitation of the Kano-Kaduna highway, as vital for regional trade and economic activity.
- Call for Continuity: The resolution concluded with a formal call on citizens to support President Tinubu’s continuity in office to ensure the completion of strategic infrastructure projects and long-term security stabilization across Northern Nigeria.
