MAKURDI, BENUE STATE — A dramatic scene unfolded at the Ihotu Motor Park in Benue State after a young woman spotted and successfully led to the arrest of her former abductors as they prepared to board a vehicle to the state capital, Makurdi.
The security operation resulted in the arrest of three suspected Fulani kidnappers and the recovery of ₦11 million in cash, believed to be ransom money. The incident has reportedly drawn the direct attention of Benue State Governor, who has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the criminal network.
Caught by Fate: Victim Raises Alarm
According to eyewitness accounts and local reports, the suspects arrived at the popular Ihotu park intending to travel to Makurdi. In a twist of fate, they attempted to board the same commercial vehicle as a young woman they had previously kidnapped and released after a ransom was paid.
The victim immediately recognized her tormentors, noting that they were boldly carrying a personal bag they had confiscated from her during her captivity. Displaying immense bravery, the woman raised an alarm and physically restrained one of the suspects inside the vehicle. The other two suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot but were quickly overpowered and apprehended by a mob of drivers and commuters at the park.

N11 Million Cash Recovered from ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ Bag
Following the interception, a search of the suspects’ belongings revealed a large ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag stored in the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the park authorities discovered cash totaling ₦11 million hidden inside the bag.
Sensing the volatile atmosphere and the potential for jungle justice from the enraged crowd, the Ihotu park manager swiftly contacted military authorities. A joint team of soldiers and police officers arrived at the scene to secure the suspects and the recovered funds, escorting them to the local station alongside the victim, who gave her formal statement.
Governor Intervenes as Case Moves to Command Headquarters
The incident has escalated to the highest levels of state security. The Benue State Governor has reportedly contacted the State Commissioner of Police, expressing a personal interest in the case and demanding that the suspects be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
To ensure a thorough investigation and prevent any compromise, the suspects have been transferred under heavy security escort to the State Police Command Headquarters in Makurdi.
