ABUJA — The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has officially debunked reports claiming the removal of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as its Chairman.
In a statement released on Friday, May 8, 2026, the Forum’s Director General, Folorunso Aluko, described the rumors as “entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth.”
Confusion Over Alleged Sack
The denial follows a wave of reports late Thursday night suggesting that Uzodimma had been sacked during an emergency meeting of APC governors in Abuja.
The rumors surfaced just hours after Uzodimma led a delegation to submit President Bola Tinubu’s re-election nomination forms at the APC national secretariat, leading to widespread speculation about a sudden power shift within the ruling party.
PGF Sets the Record Straight
Addressing the speculation, the PGF Secretariat clarified that no such meeting or resolution took place
- Unity Affirmed: The Forum maintained that Uzodimma continues to enjoy the full support of his colleagues.
- Media Caution: Aluko urged the public and party faithful to disregard the reports, stressing that the body remains focused on its responsibilities ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
Political observers note that the confusion may have been fueled by actual leadership changes within the party hierarchy earlier this year.
In February 2026, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) reconstituted its National Convention Central Coordination Committee, replacing Uzodimma as Chairman with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
In that specific reshuffle, Uzodimma was reassigned to serve as the committee’s Treasurer, a move the party attributed to “zoning considerations” ahead of the March convention.
However, that change was specific to the convention committee and did not affect his standing as the Chairman of the PGF.
As of today, Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the substantive Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.
