ASABA, Nigeria — Police operatives have arrested a personal driver, Uchenna Nicholas Obiagwu, for the gruesome murder of his employer, Bishop Clarence Chinedu Okonkwo of the End-Reconciliation Ministry.
The suspect allegedly killed the cleric inside his residence in Ibusa, near Asaba, Delta State, using a wooden pestle to strike him on the head. Following the fatal assault, the driver stole the bishop’s mobile phones and escaped in his luxury Toyota Prado Land Cruiser SUV.
Interception and Arrest During Vehicle Sale
The police confirmation revealed that the breakthrough followed a swift intelligence-led operation by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
  • The Stolen Asset: Obiagwu drove the stolen Toyota Prado SUV across the Niger Bridge into Anambra State to liquidate the vehicle.
  • The Sting Operation: The driver and his accomplice brother contacted a car dealer at the Mgbuka Spare Parts Market in Idemili North Local Government Area, attempting to sell the ₦70 million vehicle for a discounted price of ₦10 million.
  • The Apprehension: A prospective buyer grew highly suspicious of the transaction and quietly alerted security forces. Operatives intercepted and arrested the suspects in Nkpor, successfully recovering the stolen SUV and valuables.
Police Investigation and Next Steps
The Police Public Relations Officer stated that both suspects remain in custody undergoing rigorous interrogation. Investigators are currently working to track down other members of the criminal syndicate who may have conspired with the driver.
