Armed attackers reportedly struck a community in Jos South Local Government Area on Sunday night, killing six people in a hit-and-run raid, according to local leaders cited by commentator Masara Kim. The attack, said to have occurred around 9 p.m., followed separate violence roughly 50 miles away in Mangu LGA the previous day, where at least six civilians were killed.

The Jos South attack has not yet been independently confirmed by police or state officials as of this writing, and details — including the specific community targeted and the identities of victims — remain unclear. Given the short interval since the report first emerged, this account should be treated as developing.

Confirmed violence in Mangu

The reported Mangu attack fits a well-documented and ongoing pattern of violence in the LGA over the past several days. According to the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) and Vanguard, at least four people were killed and one injured across multiple Mangu communities on September 11 and 12:

• 55-year-old Geoffrey Gumut was killed in Kikyau, Mangu Halle District, on Friday, September 11; his body had reportedly not been fully recovered as of the group’s statement.
• 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle was attacked and macheted in Larkas, Panyam District, and remained in medical care. The group raised concern that security personnel were stationed in the community at the time of the attack.
• 50-year-old Pius Dachen and 25-year-old Zadok Irmiya were reportedly killed in Ntul, Mangu District, on Saturday, September 12.
• 29-year-old Katbam Titus was killed in Kinat community the same night — an attack the MYM said occurred just hours after the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division visited Mangu and held a security meeting with Mwaghavul and Fulani community leaders, at which he urged both sides to end their differences and pledged the Army would not allow further attacks.

“Four incidents. Four communities. Multiple victims,” the MYM said in a statement issued Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël Sunday, questioning the effectiveness of security measures despite the Army’s engagement just hours earlier.

The latest violence adds to an already grim year for Plateau State, which has recorded repeated mass-casualty attacks in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos North LGAs throughout 2026, including an attack in Binper community (Mangu LGA) in August that killed more than 20 people. The state sits along Nigeria’s volatile Middle Belt, where farmer-herder tensions, banditry, and periodic large-scale killings have persisted for years despite recurring security deployments and community reconciliation efforts.

Security agencies, including the state police command and the Operation Safe Haven task force, had not issued a public statement on either the Jos South or the latest Mangu incidents as of this writing.
