KADUNA, NIGERIA — A shocking claim has emerged regarding the fate of missing government critic Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, as a former aide to ex-Governor Bello Matawalle alleged that the lecturer was murdered in his presence.
Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Matawalle, made the revelation in a petition filed on Thursday to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Dadiyata, a prominent social media critic, was abducted from his Kaduna residence on August 1, 2019, and has not been seen since.
Allegations of Police Misconduct and Coercion
In the petition, Kamarawa accused two senior police officers—CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba—of extortion, illegal property seizure, and conducting a “partial investigation” against him.
Kamarawa claimed that during his interrogation at the Operations Yaki facility in Kaduna, the officers coerced him under duress. He alleged that the officers threatened to kill him just as they had killed Dadiyata and another individual, Saminu S/Fada Gusau, while he watched.
Political Intrigues and Target Lists
The petition further alleges that the officers were acting on specific instructions to protect certain political interests. Kamarawa claimed he was barred from mentioning his ties to former Governor Matawalle (now the Minister of State for Defence) and was instead pressured to implicate former Sokoto Governor Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa.
To back his claims, Kamarawa attached his official letter of appointment as an SSA to the former Zamfara State Governor.
Demands for a Fresh Probe
The allegation has reignited a firestorm of calls for justice for Dadiyata. Security journalist Bakatsine and political commentator Imran Wakili have described the claim as a “golden opportunity” for a transparent, independent investigation into the years-long disappearance.
“This cannot be ignored,” Wakili stated, urging the IGP to ensure that those responsible for any extrajudicial killings or enforced disappearances face the full weight of the law.
As of Friday morning, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued a formal response to the grave allegations contained in the petition.
