ENUGU, NIGERIA – Violence erupted during an All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting in Enugu South Local Government Area this weekend, as party executives and members reportedly turned on their own leader over a dispute regarding the distribution of funds.

The victim, the Chairman of APC Ward 5, was left battered and with his clothes in tatters following the altercation, which took place on Saturday, May 9. According to eyewitness accounts and a viral video recording of the aftermath, the disagreement began when the chairman attempted to share money intended for party faithfuls.

The chairman, visibly shaken in the footage, identified his primary attackers as the ward’s youth leader, Ekene Okoye, and the assistant organizing secretary, Munachi Ejim. He alleged that the group pounced on him during the meeting, beating him severely before stripping him of his clothing.

“They pounced on me and started beating me,” the chairman stated while displaying his torn garments to reporters. “The youth leader and the assistant organizing secretary were the ones who led the attack over the money meant for the ward.”

The incident highlights ongoing internal friction within local party structures, though the state-level leadership has yet to issue a formal statement regarding disciplinary actions for those involved. Local police have reportedly been notified of the assault, but no arrests have been confirmed at this time.

The APC in Enugu has faced various internal leadership challenges in recent months, and this latest physical confrontation at the ward level marks a significant escalation in tensions over party resources.
