We Have a Common Enemy in Anambra — Police Commissioner, Urges Joint Efforts to Combat It

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has said there is one common enemy that is causing havoc in the state, and which has also crippled businesses in the state.

The Commissioner made the assertion during his recent visit to Njikoka Local Government Area of the State, as part of his ongoing state-wide security assessment and advocacy visit across Anambra’s twenty-one local government areas.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the State, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the CP, during the tour, paid a courtesy call to the Traditional Ruler of Abagana, H.R.H. Patrick Mabamalu Okeke, and and used the medium to addresses the Local Government Chairman, the President Generals of communities in the local government areas, members of the vigilante group, among other stakeholders and residents.

The state further revealed that the CP, during the interaction, emphasized the importance of community policing and called on the people to join the Police and other security agencies to take back the space.

The statement reads: “In a continuous Commitment to strengthen the security in the state, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has continued to sustain the advocacy and security assessment in the twenty-one (21) local government area to enhance collaboration with community leaders, indigenes, residents to improve safety.

“During the interaction with the Stakeholders, the CP emphasize the importance of community policing and calls for an honest and patriotic involvement in identifying and prioritizing our differences to develop deliberate plans for addressing the problems.

“The CP also reiterated that ‘we have a common enemy that has restricted our movement on Mondays, cripple businesses of Ndi Anambra, and commits havoc in the State.’ He urged the people to join the Police and other security agencies to take back our space and deny these criminal elements the space they use to cause tension in the State.

“In his response, the Chairman of Local Government, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Donminc Ononibu pledges to sustain the security advocacy for the indigene/resident of the Local Government.

“In attendance include: the Deputy Chairman of the Local Government, Iyom Fidelia Traditional Rulers, Executive Council members, Members of PCRC, Members of Vigilantes, etc.

“The CP also visited the Traditional Ruler of Abagana, H.R.H. Obi Sir Patrick Mabamalu Okeke (JP), Igwe Abagana, to seek his cooperation and use his position as the custodian of cultural heritage to open a channel of communication to sustain the security advocacy and join in the voice in condemning any act that threatens our national peace.”
