October 23, 2026.

The Management of the FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited wishes to inform its customers, Ndị Anambra and the general public of a significant reduction in electricity allocation to the transmission stations supplying its distribution network in different parts of the state.

This significant drop has affected the volume of power available for distribution to our customers across the state.

The reduction, which began on October 19, 2026, has seen a sharp and continuous decline in the combined allocation to the Agu-Awka, Nibo, Awada and GCM Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations serving FirstPower. The allocation declined from the previous level of 214.78 megawatts (MW) to 168.64MW on October 19, 153.28MW on October 20, 99.23MW on October 21, and 92.60MW on October 22. As of the morning of Friday, September 23, the allocation remained at 92.60MW, representing an overall reduction of approximately 56.89 per cent from the previous level between Monday and Friday alone.

This sharp decline has significantly constrained the amount of electricity available to FirstPower for distribution to its customers. It has consequently affected the company’s ability to maintain the prescribed daily supply threshold on its feeders, resulting in reduced supply hours for customers.

The decline comes amid general drop on electricity generation and supply across Nigeria, which also started on Monday.

On Monday, October 19, electricity generation on the national grid reportedly crashed from approximately 3,840 megawatts (MW) at 7 a.m. to 476.70MW by 1 p.m., representing a loss of 3,363.30MW, or about 87.59 per cent, within six hours, as was confirmed by data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) portal.

The sharp decline followed multiple trippings on the 330kV transmission network, prompting power supply disruptions in different parts of the country. NISO also gave updates on the restoration measures to return the grid to normal operation, and clarified that the incident affected only a section of the grid and did not amount to a nationwide grid collapse.

Besides FirstPower, other distribution companies across the country also reported reduced allocations from the national grid.

While these national developments provide context for the current supply difficulties, efforts are ongoing to establish the specific reason for the continued reduction in allocation to the transmission stations serving FirstPower. This would also help to pave the way for improvements.

FirstPower recognises and regrets the inconveniences the current situation is causing households, businesses, institutions and other electricity consumers across Anambra State. The company assures customers that it is monitoring the situation and engaging relevant stakeholders to establish the cause of the reduction and facilitate improved allocation as soon as possible.

FirstPower will continue to distribute the electricity available to its network as efficiently and equitably as possible, while working to minimise the impact of the shortfall on customers. The company appeals for the patience and understanding of Ndị Anambra and assures the public that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

We reaffirm our commitment to an improved service delivery and keeping our customers informed.
