Edo Governorship Election: The Defection of Governor Obaseki To PDP Is A Blessing To APC

The immediate past National Vice Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, North-Central Zone, Hon. Suleiman Wambai has said the defection of the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseke to the opposition political party, The People’s Democratic Party is a blessing to the ruling APC in Edo State.

Wambai in an interview with selected Journalists said even if Obaseke clinch the seat to complete his second term, he would loose at the Election Petition Tribunal over West Africa Examination Council result.

The former National Vice Chairman explained that the embattled Governor of Edo State is never and would never be a stumbling block to the success of the ruling party in the forthcoming governorship election.

“Is not and would never be a threat to our party,if you would recalled ,he lost election at his polling unit,his ward,his Local Government,Constituency and subsequently a senatorial seat representing his senatorial zone”

Hon.Suleiman Wambai  further unveiled that Governor Godwin Obaseke from the list of elections held in the past lack electoral value to challenge the ruling APC in the forthcoming governorship election.

“I have no regret over my statement that Godwin Obaseke forged his certificate, what I’m saying is not a figment of my imagination rather the true position of issues because Obaseke stand the risk of loosing the Governorship ticket paraventure  he wins the election

Commenting on the imbroglio that consumed the leadership of the ruling APC at the National level, he faulted Governor Godwin Obaseke for his unguarded utterances meant to instigate crisis in the State.

“I was privilledged to be part of the reconciliation committee at Edo State, The former party Chairman, Adams Oshomole summoned a reconciliation meeting and Obaseke refused to attend and when he visited him Obaseke was saying is not going to the meeting because a battle line has been draw between Him and Oshomole”

He maintained that the Edo State Governor lacks the willpower to run the State single handedly without the support of other party chieftain,Wambai affirmed that APC crisis in Edo State is not in connection to Oshomole but party heavyweight that were sidelined after the victory of the party.

“Godwin Obaseke swallow more than he can chewed by inaugurating persons as well forcing others to joined the present Assembly,He sacked his Deputy from the party as well State executives of the party,and the National Secretariat Wade into the matter and set up a five man committee headed by Governor Ganduje,Akanbi and others,and the worst situation he went ahead and conducted primaries without consulting the National Secretariat of the party,he set aside the committee set up by the party Chairman and all I know is that is working for PDP”.

Suleiman Wambai explained that Obaseke went ahead by setting aside the committee set up by the National Secretariat,Notwithstanding Adams Oshomole and other party chieftain told him to go and dissolved the Kangaroo Assembly he refused”.

Suleiman Wambai further said all avenues for peace in Edo APC were exhausted with no end insight to the skimishes heralded by Governor Obaseke.

“The former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshomole openly told me that his saddest moment in life was for him funding the campaign of Obaseke to be the Governor of Edo State”He added.

On the unabated crisis that blanket the National Secretariat,Suleiman Wambai said the party lacuna was a gang up by majority of APC Governors walking against Oshomole because the all have interest ahead of 2023 election.

He in addition averred that endorsing Godwin Obaseke for Governorship is like loosing Edo State to the opposition party,calling on Nigerians to support the good work of Mr. President.
