A pressure group, Benue Youths For Good Governance, has berated the government of Samuel Ortom who they say is grinding the state to a halt even as they claim he is gradually loosing popularity among the people.

Reacting to the booing of the governor’s representative during a funeral yesterday in Ukum, the group in a press release signed by its President Francis Igba,  accused Ortom of neglecting his primary duties and expending time on his fight with Suswam due to his fear of the latter’s fast rising fame.

According to him, Ortom has abandoned his role as a governor but concentrated his energies more on trying to make Suswam bad. While citing the recent protests by workers in all 23 local government as pointer to the rejection of Ortom, he advised the governor to concentrate on his primary responsibility.

“Governor Ortom needs to listen to the people and end his wild goose chase of Suswam because he is gradually loosing favour with the people that voted him. This is evident that everywhere you go there is lamentation and protests.  What good is a government that can’t pay salaries in just seven moths into the life of his four years despite huge bailout funds from Abuja? He queried.

The group also condemned the panel of inquiry stating that the panels were just a hoodwink and a facade to divert attention while gross negligence takes centre stage in the administration of the state.

He further described the panel as a “dress rehearsal aimed at demonising Suswam who had in time past had relations with the actors of the script including Ortom, but have like ingrates have turned against their benefactor.

According to Igba the committee has become a puppet show where the panel were remote controlled by puppeteers stating that the recent embarrassment done them was the denial by the Bank of Industry of giving loan to politicians in the state. He said coming from an agency of government and extension of the present governing party, it has not only exposed this witch hunt but further stamped the illegitimate agenda.

The group lambasted the governor and his media team accusing the team of inconsistency in churning out figures, an act they described as mischief aimed at confusing the general public so as to create a window to loot the state.

They thus advised the governor to stop personalising government and using its machinery for vengeance but allow the law to take its course and concentrate on delivering dividends democracy to the people.
