The Bayelsa state police command has arrested over eighteen persons who are alleged to have been involved in the fracas that led to the death of one Mr. Andrew June, APC supporter who was killed last Thursday by political thugs.

Mr. Andrew June was matcheted to death last Thursday while returning from Ekeremor town after  attending the APC gubernatorial campaign along with others who also suffered various degrees of injuries.

The suspected killer of the deceased, Mr. Promise Meshak is said to be at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) section of the Bayelsa State Police Command while seventeen others including the mastermind of the attack and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are been drilled by a crack team of policemen.

The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation of the All Progressive Congress (APC), for the December 5th governorship election in Bayelsa State has commended the police in the state for the timely arrest of the killer of an APC member from Oweigbene community in Ekeremor LGA.

In a statement issued by the Director,Media and Publicity,Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation, Chief Nathan Egba, he commended the police in the state for the timely arrest of the killer, saying the recent violent attack perpetrated by the PDP thugs and arrest of the killer has confirmed the fears of the APC that the PDP was stock piling arms to cause mayhem in a bid to rig the election.

The statement urged the police to continue to remain neutral and courageous enough to deal decisively with any group or individual that engage in acts capable of disrupting the election.

“We wish to call on the police to ensure speedy prosecution of those arrested so far to ensure justice is served”.

Chief Egba, urged APC supporters and party faithfuls to remain calm and report all acts of violence against their members to the Police while continuing to work for the success of the party come December 5

“As a party, we shall stand by the family of the deceased member and all those who were injured in the Ekeremor attack”, he stated.

When contacted, the Bayelsa state police spokes man, Butswat Asimina (DSP) said the suspected killer of the deceased has been arrested but noted he was not aware of other arrests in connection to the killing.

According to him, “Yes, one Promise Meshak is in our custody in connection to the killing of one Mr. Andrew June, but I don’t know of any other arrest in connection to the matter”.
