Criminal activities in Enugu state have continued to raise its ugly heads following the indiscriminate shooting and killing that has been going on in the state, as no fewer than five persons including a bride and groom billed to wed on Saturday 6th September, 2014 in Enugu were brutally killed on Friday night by rampaging heavily armed robbers.
The groom, identified as Uzochukwu Eze, in company of his bride (names with held) met their untimely death when they stopped to buy fuel on their way to drop a woman who brought a gift to them ahead of the ceremony.
It was reliably gathered that the late intending couple were to perform the weeding at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Trans Ekulu, Enugu.
Confirming this to 247ureports in Enugu, the state police public Relations officer PPRO, Ebere Amarizu, said the gunmen who robbed Genuine Petrol Station in the Trans Ekulu area of the city, killed the Manager of the fuel station.
Our correspondent further learnt that the woman who was seated in front of the car with the bridegroom was also shot dead by the trigger-happy robbers.
However, as the robbers were escaping through NOWAS/ Nike Lake Road, they also shot and killed a police orderly attached to the wife of the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The police orderly was said to have alighted from the vehicle to help ease traffic jam, which was building up at the Timber Market end of the road when the hoodlums disarmed and rained bullets on him.
Amaraizu said: “Robbers were not really on the rampage, but there was an incident, which allegedly brought about the death of some people by suspected hoodlums who shot sporadically before the arrival of security operatives.”
However the police maintained that it is working tirelessly with a view to ensuring that the robbers are apprehended. Sources from Trans Ekulu who did not want their names in print to the media organization that people in that area lives now fear because they do not know whom to trust therefore some residence abounded their homes for the fear of being killed.
Moreso called on the police authorities to ensure that they came out with something tangible in their investigations and further brought to book those perpetrators.
