ALIMOSHO, LAGOS STATE — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested ten suspects following a violent outbreak that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election in Alimosho Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, May 16, 2026, left several party members with severe injuries.
The Attack
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the violence erupted on Onilewura Street, along Liasu Road in the Egbe area. Armed hoodlums and thugs loyal to opposing aspirants stormed the election venue.
The attackers, carrying machetes and firearms, began shooting sporadically into the air and attacking attendees. The sudden onslaught triggered a massive stampede as voters, delegates, and electoral officials fled for safety.
Casualties and Theft
Multiple victims sustained deep cuts and serious injuries during the melee and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
In addition to the physical violence, the suspects capitalized on the ensuing panic to rob terrified party faithful and local residents of their mobile phones, cash, and other valuable belongings.
Security Response
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, confirmed the arrest of the ten individuals. Security forces deployed to the scene also successfully recovered a locally made gun from the suspects.
“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station,” Adeoye stated. He added that a comprehensive investigation is underway to unmask the political sponsors behind the violence.
Crucially, the police clarified that despite the intensity of the weapons used, no fatalities were recorded during the clash. Similar, though less bloody, tensions were also reported during parallel APC primaries in the Mushin Local Government Area on the same day.
