The ongoing battle between the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Presidency through the national leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continued on Tuesday as the party leadership inaugurated new leaders for its Rivers State chapter.
The inauguration of Felix Obuah as Rivers PDP chairman was done by the National Working Committee of the party led by its National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, at the party’s headquarters in Abuja. The inauguration occurs less than 24 hours after an Abuja High Court declared Mr. Obuah as the rightful chairman of the Rives PDP.
Mr. Obuah challenged the election of Godspower Ake, a loyalist of Mr. Amaechi, as the PDP chairman in Rivers.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, said the state government is still studying the court judgement and would react after a thorough review.
Mr. Amaechi has been having a running battle with the presidency and the PDP leadership over his statements and positions on critical national and party matters. He has publicly criticised the presidency for the corruption in the petroleum subsidy scheme and is believed to be opposed to the planned re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

What a pity; what a great pity!
Wrong caption. Whose side are you on 247ureport? How can you say Amaechi’s wing is clipped? This is not secondary school’s class monitor issue. It is like you are celebrating something. Especially against someone whose banner has been transparent and incorruptible. Where is the objectivity?
We don’t want to see unending feud in this situation, because of the history of this geographic section of Nigeria. The whole thing can snowball into a larger crisis that can affect the common street person. I hope not. If Gov. Amaechi is screaming corruption at the presidency, I would have preferred the president to take him on and clear himself, in a lively debate rather than be going behind to be doing what amounts to vindictive back stabbing which is above the integrity of the office. And it makes him look guilty, making Gov. Amaechi appear to be the one with the larger moral compass, and the taller big brother..
And where are are those anti corruption folks who need to jump in here and wrangle with what is going on? It is also believed the presidency influenced Gov. Akpabio of Akwa Ibom to work against Gov. Amaechi, his own neighbor state, and that he seems to be going along. This is shameful indeed. Is he that robotic? The whole thing turns my stomach. What is going on here is not the usual plain democratic politicking. It is getting personal, and it is dangerous for Nigeria and everyone, regardless of who might be celebrate privately.
And I hope that President Goodluck Jonathan would be mindful not to leave a Badluck legacy for the region. This geographic zone of Nigeria has had enough, and I’m saddened by what is going on here. We need good action, and prayers please.
