Embattled TechnicalAdviser of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Austin Eguavoen has refuted claimsthat he was suspended from the club.
Eguavoen insisthe turned in his resignation letter on Thursday to the management of the Ababased club.
He accused theChairman of the club, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu of not motivating the players asthey are owed arrears of salaries, match bonuses and sign on fees and blamedEnyimba’s poor in recent times on the situation.
Eguavoen said, “Whenyou now place these same players on a half salary, how do you get the best fromthem? That was why this afternoon I turned in my resignation letter but I heardhe (Anyansi), is not in town. Maybe they have already told him about it (myresignation) and maybe he wanted to be smart and tell the whole world I wassuspended when in fact I had resigned. Does that make sense? He gave us papersthat we have been placed on a half salary and there was nothing like I had beensuspended there. But because I had resigned he wanted to quickly tell the worldthat they suspended me.”
Reacting to thesituation, Anyansi Agwu said Eguavoen was suspended as a result of poor performanceand failure to return to his duty post since the Aba Millionaires lost to PrimeFC at the Federation Cup.
247ureports.comgathered that Enyimba players are being owed their sign on fees and have managedto play along hoping the situation would improve. The situation is said to have led to a number of players shunning training sessions to protest the non payment of their salaries.
Sources close tothe team say the players are not happy with the situation.”This has been theproblem, we are not happy with the management. They have promised to clear thedebts but would always fail. You see what has been happening. The team wouldhave won the league but the management made it impossible by refusing to paythe players,” one of the players who did not want his name on print said.
247ureports.com furthergathered that funds are barely made available to the club since Chief Theodore Orjibecame the governor.”The governor seem not be interested in sponsoring the club,”the player added.
Sources said theEnyimba had its best times during the administration of the former governor ofthe state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, winning the African Champions League back toback, two Federation Cup trophies as well as six titles of the premier league.
