The South East Governors yesterday urged the federal government to establish the cargo section of Akanu Ibiam international airport as a means of encouraging economic activities in the zone.

Governors within the zone this request as part of the issues contained in their communiqué released to Journalists at the end of their meeting in Enugu,which ended late on  Sunday,August 31.

The Chairman of the forum, Chief T.A Orji, the Abia state governor said the South East governors will give supportive action to that effect.

Reformist however recalled that even though  President Goodluck Jonathan officially commissioned the Akanu Ibiam international airport Enugu for use in July,2013, all equipments that are supposed to facilitate international flight and airlift of materials to and from the airport, are not yet fully installed, among them is the cargo section.

The South East Governors further commended the efforts of the federal government and the various state governments in curtailing the spread of Ebola virus in the country.

However, they expressed delight with the befitting burial accorded the late minister of information, Professor Dora Akunyili, through joint efforts with the federal government.
