Monarch Aspirants Arraigned For Forgery in Ekiti

The Police on Thursday arraigned two men, Olurotimi Omowumi, 52 and Gabriel Owoeye, 66 in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates Court for forging certificates to occupy traditional stool.

The Prosecutor, Mr Ojo Osobu told the court that, the accused persons in July, in Ikun-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of the State conspired to commit felony to wit forgery.

He said that the accused forged the National Examination Council (NECO) and University Degree results to contest the traditional stool of Onikun of Ikun-Ekiti.

The charge sheet reads: “That you Omowumi Olurotimi and Gabriel Owoeye sometimes in July, 2014 in Ikun-Ekiti, at Otun Magisterial District, did forge a National Examination Council (NECO) result.

“That you forged the certificate bearing the name of Omowumi Olurotimi, with number 21990425HJ.

“Knowing it to be false document, present same to the members of the screening committee to the stool of Onikun of Ikun-Ekiti.

“That you presented the forged document with intent that same will be acted upon as genuine.

“That you, Omowumi Rotimi and Gabriel Owoeye on the same date, place, did forge University of Ado-Ekiti certificate, bearing the name of Omowumi Rotimi.

“That you presented the certificate to show that you are awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Education, Adult Education, with Second Class Hons (Lower Division).”

“Knowing it to be false document, present same to the members of the screening committee to the stool of Onikun of Ikun-Ekiti with intent that same will be acted upon as genuine.”

According to Osobu, the offences committed contravened Sections: 516, 467 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

He prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him prepare properly for the case.

The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty to the three -count charge when they were read to them by the Court.

The defence counsel, Mr Ebenezer Adedeji prayed the court to grant bail to the accused in liberal terms, saying they would not abuse it if same is granted them.

Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept.16 for definite hearing.
