UK spies will face criminal inquiry over Libya

0

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s spy agencies will face a criminal investigation into claims that intelligence shared with Moammar Gadhafi’s regime led to the torture or rendition of two Libyan men and their families, authorities announced Thursday.

A  criminal inquiry was launched in 2008 when a former Guantanamo Bay  detainee alleged that intelligence agencies were complicit in his  torture. The inquiry later expanded to include claims by two Libyans who  accused intelligence agents of sharing sensitive information with  Gadhafi’s regime.

“We want to  get to the bottom of this — not just on grounds of justice or ethical  considerations, but because this whole saga has threatened to make  Britain less safe,” said Conservative lawmaker Andrew Tyrie who chairs a  special committee on the practice of extraordinary rendition.

Tripoli’s military council commander Abdel-Hakim Belhaj, a former fighter in the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group  which had opposed Gadhafi and had asylum in the U.K., claims both  British and U.S. intelligence may have played a role in his 2004  detention in Thailand’s capital Bangkok and transfer to Tripoli.

Documents  uncovered during the fall of Tripoli disclosed the close working ties  between Gadhafi’s spies and Western intelligence officials. One document  allegedly contained a message from an agent from the British foreign  spy agency MI6 making reference to the rendition of Belhaj, also known as Abu ‘Abd Allah Sadiq.

“I congratulate you on the safe arrival of Abu ‘Abd Allah Sadiq,” the message said. “This was the least we could do for you and Libya to demonstrate the remarkable relationship we have built over recent years.”

Belhaj, who said his pregnant wife was also abused, praised the decision Thursday to open a criminal inquiry.

“I  trust the police will get to the bottom of this, and find not just the  rank-and-file agents, but those ministers who were truly responsible for  her suffering,” Belhaj said. “To this day, I cannot understand why my  pregnant wife was put on the same plane and abused as well.”

Sami al-Saadi, another Libyan who had been opposed to Gadhafi, also claims MI6 played a role in his rendition.

The  New York-based Human Rights Watch found a cache of documents in the  abandoned office of Gadhafi’s former intelligence chief, Moussa Koussa,  after the fall of the regime. Among them was a fax the CIA sent to  Koussa in March 2004, which purportedly showed that the agency would  support MI6 and Gadhafi in seeking Saadi’s rendition.

Two days after the fax, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair  flew to Tripoli to meet Gadhafi. The two were photographed embracing  and several deals were announced, including a multimillion pound  agreement for a gas exploration contract with Shell, the Anglo-Dutch oil  giant.

The visit came after Libya bowed to international pressure and agreed in 2003 to abandon weapons of mass destruction.

Still,  Saadi, his wife and four children were bundled onto a plane from Hong  Kong to Libya where they were then separated. Saadi claims he was  tortured.

It’s not is not clear  whether investigators could call on Blair for questioning. Former  Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, said he did not know about the rendition.

MI6  chief John Sawers said Thursday it was in the agency’s interest to deal  with the new allegations “as swiftly as possible so we can draw a line  under them and focus on the crucial work we now face in the future.”

While  British intelligence agents will face new questions over the Libyans’  claims, prosecutors and police said Thursday there was insufficient  evidence to prove that agents were complicit in the alleged torture or  mistreatment of former Guantanamo detainees.

The case that prompted the initial investigation was that of former Guantanamo detainee Binyam Mohamed.

Mohamed, an Ethiopian who moved to Britain  as a teenager and was initially held in Pakistan, says he was sent by  the U.S. to Morocco where he was interrogated and brutally tortured. He  alleges that he told an MI5 officer of his mistreatment in 2002.

Keir  Starmer, Director of Public Prosecutions, said there was evidence that  intelligence agents provided information to the US authorities about  Mohamed and also supplied questions for them. But, he said, there was  “insufficient evidence to prove to the standard required in a criminal  court” that any spies provided information when they knew he was being  tortured, or suspected he was at risk.

Mohamed  said Thursday he hadn’t expected British spies to be charged, but that  new evidence may eventually emerge that would reopen cases.

“If  there is any further and wider criminal investigation … I believe it  would be completely impossible to decide that there has not been a  pattern of massive complicity by UK bodies in criminality at the highest  levels directed at other Muslim prisoners,” Mohamed said. “My  experience was not isolated; it was part of a pattern.”

Eliza  Manningham-Buller, a former head of MI5, has said she believes the U.S.  deliberately misled its allies over its handling of detainees during  the so-called war on terror.

In a separate allegation of  complicity from a former detainee, investigators also say they failed to  find sufficient evidence — mostly because they lacked access to  witnesses and the detainee who had been held by U.S. authorities at the  Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

Some  3,000 terror suspects continue to be held at the secretive detention  facility where detainees lack access to lawyers. Human rights  organizations have repeatedly criticized U.S. authorities for a lack of  transparency and legal protection for the detainees.

“One  thing you read very clearly in those materials is that it is not that  there wasn’t torture, it is not that the British weren’t involved, it is  that there are witnesses who are not available to put their part,” said  Clive Stafford Smith, a lawyer with the legal charity Reprieve who  represents some of the alleged victims of torture and rendition.

Most  of the torture allegations came from terror suspects who were either  initially held in Pakistan and Afghanistan, or sent to other countries  such as Morocco for interrogation.

British agents were accused of passing on information about detainees but not of direct abuse.

Britain  has already made payouts to 16 former detainees at Guantanamo. Among  those alleged to have been part of the settlements were Mohamed, Bishar  Al Rawi, Jamil El Banna, Richard Belmar, Omar Deghayes, Moazzam Begg and  Martin Mubanga.

British  prosecutors and police said that while there was insufficient evidence  to bring criminal charges now, cases could be reopened if new evidence  emerges.

A separate government inquiry into Britain’s role in the so-called war on terror is expected to begin later this year.

Genocide In Nigeria: Igbos Face Extinction

5
By Igboville Members
1. Nigeria is an oil rich country and a regional power in West Africa. It is a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual country with a population of more than 160 million people. There are three major ethnic groups, the Igbo (also known as Ibo) and the Yoruba in the South, and the Hausas in the North. There are about 250 other smaller groups in the federation. The Hausa are predominantly Muslims, and live in the Northern part of Nigeria, the Yoruba are split almost evenly between Muslims and Traditionalists or Christians, and live in the South-Western part of Nigeria, and the Igbo, 99% Christians, live in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.
2. In 1914 the Southern and Northern protectorates of the British Colonies were amalgamated into one country – Nigeria – without due consultation with the colonies or national conference on nationhood convened for the people to work out their own destiny. The consequence is that the country has been plagued with mutual distrust between regions, tribalism, ethnic squabbles, sectarian violence, ethnic cleansing, sporadic violence and terrorism, civil wars, and increasing violence and terrorism in recent times.
THE IGBO NATION
3. The Igbos inhabit the South-Eastern (popularly referred to as the East) part of Nigeria with a population of over 50 million. They speak the Igbo language and are predominantly Christians. A land blessed with human and mineral resources including oil. The Igbos are very commercially inclined and extremely industrious. The Igbos as a people had an established democratic institution even before colonization by the British. They are very republican and egalitarian in nature, and coexisted peacefully with their neighbours prior to colonization.
4. Today the Igbos of Nigeria have demonstrated to the world their commitment to peaceful coexistence by refusing to take up arms for self-preservation in the face of a targeted, determined and unrelenting genocide in the Northern part of Nigeria, by appealing to the UN and the International Community for immediate response and protection of Igbos (Ndigbo) of Nigeria. Today we have decided to bring to the attention of the International community the enormity of the crime against humanity, the despicable carnage, the pogrom, the ethnic cleansing going on in Nigeria today.
5. As you are reading this, the massacre is on-going with outrageous ferocity and wicked intent aimed at wiping the Igbos off the face of the earth. We continue to bury our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters in thousands every week, and every month. We have watched our daughters and wives publicly raped and butchered, pregnant women’s stomach cut open and the foetus removed and killed, breast feeding mothers have had their breasts cut off and allowed to bleed to death. Hundreds have been burnt alive, and the world is silent.
6. Innocent and law abiding citizens whose only crimes have been their industriousness, mobility, and Christianity continue to face the threat of extinction everyday. We have been persecuted and have even fought back against our powerful persecutors for more than half a century now. Rather than bring us peace and security, the silent support of some International bodies has increased the advantage of our oppressors over us.
7. Today our persecutors are a Muslim sect based in the Northern part of the country, known as ‘Boko Haram’, loosely translated as ‘Western Education is Sin’. In the past they have been the Northern people, the Hausas, or the Federal Military Government of Nigeria.
8. One common theme in Nigeria since 1945 is that Igbo life is not sacred; almost nobody is ever brought to book for the spilling of innocent Igbo life. Igbo murderers operate with impunity and even enjoy tacit support of the Nigerian government. In the market place, in the churches, on the streets, the blood of the Igbos are spilled every month. How long shall the world remain silent in the face of continued injustice?
9. We don’t usually think of history as being shaped by silence, but as the renowned English philosopher Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”. We live in a world plagued by terrorism today. That evil terror has made its way to Nigeria and the Igbos are their primary victims. It is time for the international community to get up, say enough is enough, and crush this terror.
10. The Nigerian government is seemingly complicit with this terror group, because they have not shown the will to combat and destroy it. Rather they have made deals with the terror groups in the past, and actually offered amnesty to this terrorist organization. Must the world watch in silence? We plead for you  to come  to our aid now lest we perish. Igbos are on the verge of being extinct, and we have no support in Nigeria. 11. The Igbo story greatly parallels the Jewish experience; we are very industrious, religious, and live in migrant communities. As a result of our commercial success we are despised and mistreated by host communities. This hatred has led to taunts, discrimination, pogroms, ethnic cleansing and a civil war in which the rest of Nigeria ganged up to subjugate the Igbos. Politicians from other ethnic groups have used anti-Igbo sentiments to whip up support for themselves, and get their people to commit dastardly acts of violence against Igbos. Just like the Jews we have suffered enough today we say enough is enough.
12. To illustrate our point further, here is an excerpt of  anti-Igbo proceedings from the Northern House of Assembly in 1964: 1.      “On the allocations of plots to Ibos, or allocation of stalls I would like to advise the minister that these people know how to make money and we do not know the way and manner of getting about this business. We do not want Ibos to be allocated with plots, I do not want them to be given plots.” —————Mallam Muhammadu Mustapha Maude Gyar 2.      “I would like you, as the Minister of land and Survey, to revoke forthwith all certificates of occupancy from the hands of the Ibos resident in the Region. [Applause from the assembly floor]. ————–Mallam Bashari Umaru 3.      “I am very glad that we are in Moslem country, and the government of Northern Nigeria allowed some few Christians in the region, to enjoy themselves according to the belief of their religion, but building of hotels should be taken away from the Ibos and even if we find some Christians who are interested in building hotels and have no money to do so, the government should aid them, instead of allowing Ibos to continue with the hotels.” ————–Mr. A. A. Agigede 4.      “I am one of the strong believers in Nigerian unity, and I have hoped for our having a United Nigeria, but certainly if the present trend of affairs continues, then I hope the government will investigate first the desirability and secondly the possibility of extending the Northernization policy to the petty Ibo traders. [Applause]. ————–Prof. Iya Abubakar (special Member: Lecturer, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria) 5.      “I would like to say something very important that the Minister should take my appeal to the federal government about the Ibos in the Post Office. I wish the members of these Ibos be reduced. There are too many of them in the North. They were just like sardines and I think they were just too dangerous to the region. —————Mallam Mukhtar Bello 6.      “Mr. Chairman, Sir, well, first and foremost, what I have to say before this honorable House is that we should send a delegate to meet our honorable Premier to move a Motion in this very Budget Session that all the Ibos working in the Civil Service of Northern Nigeria, including the native authorities, whether they are contractors, or not, should be repatriated at once. ————–Mallam Ibrahim Muse 7.      “There should be no contracts either from the government, native authorities, or private enterprises given to Ibo contractors. [Government Bench: Good talk and shouts of “Fire the Southerners.”] Again Mr. Chairman, the foreign firms too should be given time limit to replace all Ibos in their firms by some other people.” ————–Mallam Bashari Umaru 8.      “It is my most earnest desire that every post in the region, however small it is, be filled by a Northerner. [Applause]” ————-The Premier, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sarduana of Sokoto 9.      “What brought the Ibos into this region? They were here since the colonial days. Had it not been for the colonial rule, there would hardly have been any Ibo in this region. Now that there is no colonial rule the Ibos should go back to their region. There should be no hesitation about this matter. Mr. Chairman, North is for Northerners, east for the easterners, West for the Westerners, and the Federation is for all. [Applause}.” ————–Alhaji Usman Liman 10.  “Mr. Chairman, Sir, I do not like to take up much of the time of this House in making explanations, but I would like to assure members that having heard their demands about Ibos holding land in Northern Nigeria, my ministry will do all it can to see that the demands of members are met. How to do this, when to do it, all this should not be disclosed. In due course, you will all see what will happen. [Applause]” ————-Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Cashash, Minister of Land and Survey
The quotes above are the mildest form of discrimination Igbos have faced since 1945, and are just a tip of the iceberg.
13. We, the members of IGBOVILLE, a network of Igbos at home and abroad representing the larger Igbo community wish through this medium to bring to your attention the horror, and state of fear we have borne and still bear for more than fifty years. The federal government of Nigeria always and consistently turns a blind eye to the injustice and continuous violence meted out against us. The government controlled print and electronic media refuses to publish or at best under reports the horrific orgy of blood-letting going on in Nigeria as carried out by the Northern Muslims against primarily Igbos. The government at varied times under reports it as a religious conflict, and sometimes a diversionary measure is taken to deceive the world or confuse the people from seeing what is going on in the country.
14. Today as these horrendous massacres persist, the federal government is busy with the issue of oil subsidy while a section of the country perishes. The world press focuses on oil while human blood, the blood of the Igbos wet the streets of the Northern states of Nigeria. Below is a brief narrative of the suffering of Igbos in Nigeria:

16. And the list goes on. By the time you read this more would have died. The situation is getting out of hand and the Nigerian government has shown that it lacks the will and the capability to protect the life and property of Igbos in Nigeria.
17. They federal government has tried relentlessly to undermine the premeditated, consistent, calculated ethnic cleansing as a religious conflict between Christians and Muslims. This has been the attitude of the government who through its unjust structural policies has continued in her agenda to punish the Igbos. The Igbos are now both politically and ethnically endangered species in Nigeria. Once a vibrant powerful ethnic group in Nigeria the Igbo is now a minority in the new geopolitical structure of Nigeria.
18. We cannot continue to watch as the security situation in Nigeria continues to deteriorate. Nigeria is a strategic ally of the West. The world must act now to avoid another civil war in the style of Rwanda and Sudan. Now is the time to act before the anger of the youths, as vindictive as it is take matters into their hands.
19. In the past two months alone, more than 1000 Igbos have been massacred in the North; one of the the most gruesome being the attack on the Igbos on Christmas day, 25 Dec 2011, in which defenseless innocent worshippers at a Christmas service were bombed and more than 42 Igbos lost their lives.
20. After these bombings the evil Boko Haram sect gave all Southerners (i.e. Igbos) resident in the North a three-day ultimatum to leave the North or face their wrath. As the three-day ultimatum given to Southerners (Igbos) in the North to leave expired more than 100 Igbos have been killed, both in churches, on the streets, and churches as of January 8 2012. The death-toll will more than likely rise.
21. Today by coming to you, we have demonstrated our resolve to pursue a peaceful resolution of this carnage. The Igbos are asking for the international community and the UN to intervene. We want a referendum, supervised by UN for the people to choose for themselves if they want to be part of Nigeria. We demand for self-rule where we can protect our citizenry from further slaughter since our lives and property are not guaranteed in Nigeria.
In view of the seriousness and urgency of our situation, we have decided to hold a protest rally from 1-6pm on Friday 13th January 2012 at Old Palace Yard SW1. Our contact phone is 07405802083 and email ukigboville@yahoo.co.uk.
Kindly consider this email as an invitation to the rally as well as a request to use your medium to inform the world of the genocide going on in Nigeria.
Thank You
Signed,

Exclusive: Multi-Billion Dollars Hidden Bank Accounts Of Jonathan’s Minister Of Justice, Bello Adoke Exposed

21
The Attorney General of the Federation

Barely 48 hours after an online publication exposed the sordid details of a N1.2 billion mansion just purchased by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,in Maitama area of Abuja, ireports-ng.com has uncovered four secret bank accounts where billions of naira, millions of US dollars and GB pounds are hidden by Nigeria’s present Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

Adoke was appointed as Justice Minister by President Jonathan on April 6, 2010 and has since then been enmeshed in various allegations of corruption and providing cover for the corrupt who are facing court trial by withdrawing corruption charges against them.

Weeks of underground investigations by ireports-ng.com have however revealed more shocking details about Adoke’s secret bank accounts in the nation’s federal capital territory, Abuja. One of such is an account number 002228052782 at a branch of First City Monument Bank located at Plot 252 Herbert Macaulay Way,Central Area Abuja. In the account is a stunning sum of $16 million US dollars.

Further investigations revealed that Adoke is keeping yet another $24 million US dollars in account number 041152000428 with Diamond Bank located at Plot 117 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Wuse 2 while another 5.3 million Great Britain Pounds is also kept in the same account with Diamond Bank.

As if that was not enough, ireports-ng.com also revealed that Nigeria’s Justice Minister operates another secret account with the Ahmadu Bello Way branch of Zenith Bank, Abuja where a whooping sum of N6.2 billion is being kept.

Born on September 1st,1963, Adoke was not known for any serious legal practice until he was brought to the limelight in 2010 when he was appointed as Justice Minister by Mr Jonathan. Since then, there has been series of allegations of under the table deals by Mr Adoke using his official position. He has in the last 48 hours issued two statements to threaten protesting Nigerian workers to sack them and charge civil society activists involved in the protests with treason.

Last year, an online publication accused Adoke of taking bribes from an arranged sale of moribund NITEL property in Area 11, Abuja and buy back of same from Adoke’s kinsman popularly called Alhaji AA Oil. Adoke’s share of the deal was said to have been diverted to build a massive mansion for him on Gana street, Abuja. Though he denied ownership of the property saying it belongs to AA Oil, finishing works have since stopped on the sprawling property which was being worked on day and night before the scandal broke out.

Also last year, a civil society group called Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders,CACOL petitioned Nigeria’s anti-graft police, EFCC to probe allegations that Mr Adoke collected bribes running into over $23 million US dollars from a plea bargain deal he arranged between government and some multinational firms including Siemens, Halliburton and Julius Berger.Ironically, Adoke supervises the EFCC that is supposed to investigate the various corruption allegations against him. It is yet to be seen whether the present head of the agency, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde will have the courage to probe graft allegations against Adoke which his predecessor failed to touch.

*ireports-ng.com promises to make this the beginning of series of reports on the sleaze by top officials of the Jonathan’s administration.

Boko Haram: “Ndigbo Defend Yourselves” – Senator Chukwumerije

0
Senator Uche_Chukwumerije

The religious/tribal killings of southern [Ndigbo] Christians living in the northern part of Nigeria which appears to have continued unabated amidst silence within the leadership in the Igbo community may have found a voice in the recent call by the Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria representing Abia State in the person of Senator Chukwumerije and in the Roman Catholic Arch Bishop of the Owerri Diocese.

Senator Chukwumerije in a private chat with 247ureports.com indicated that the era of “running away” from the north each time the northerners turn violent is over.  The Senator expressed sadness over the lives lost to the needless terrorist attacks by Boko Haram group. He called on the youths of Igbo decent to hold their grounds and not give – in to fear or to terror.

“It is a constitutional right to defend yourself” stated the Senator as he explained that the federal government has shown its inability to defend the people of Igbo origin against the callous might of the terror group. “This is one Nigeria. Igbos have the right to reside anywhere in Nigeria” added the Senator.

The Roman Catholic Arch Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev Fr. Obinna made a similar call in a chat with 247ureports.com. The Reverend Father indicated that the federal government has proved unable to defend/secure the lives of Christians in the north – that it has become necessary for the people of Igbo decent to rise to the challenge and defend against the incessant killings of Christians and Igbos. He pointed his called to the South East governors to ‘encourage’ the Igbo in the north to defend themselves.

The Reverend Father indicated that he has placed calls to the Governor of Imo State, Mr. Rochas Okorocha regarding ‘encouraging’ the Igbos living in the North to equip themselves in order to defend themselves. The Arch Bishop confirmed that the Governor indicate interest in the proposal. He did not provide the details.

Meanwhile, the apex organization of Ndigbo, Ohaneze Ndigbo Nigeria appear transfixed. This is as the organization have sent conflicting messages to the public regarding the killings of Ndigbo and the way forward. As gathered, the organization’s executives members and its chapter chairmen have privately sent out private ‘save our soul’ [SOS] messages to the five South East governors for them to send buses to the north to rescue Ndigbo from the north. One of the state chapter chairmen who pleaded for the governors to come and rescue Igbos living in the north was the Kano State chapter chairman, Chief Idika.

Chief Idika in talking to 247ureports.com revealed that he had spoken with the national chairman of Ohaneze, Chief Uwechue regarding the need initiate a rescue program – and the national chairman was said to have agreed and indicated that he will do his part as the chairman to affect the said rescue mission.

But the National Chairman reneged. He issued a press release, within 24hours, stating that the Igbos in the north should hold their grounds. The press release did not mention security with be provided for their continued stay.

stay tuned

Oil Subsidy: NNPC Group General Manager Resigns

33

Dr Levi Ajuonuma’s Resignation Letter

I have followed the subsidy debate/protest and must confess that we at NNPC have not helped in the fight against corruption. I can authoritatively say that the N1.3trillion is not the true figure but given as a result of the corrupt tendencies of the cabal. This astronomical increase in 2011 was purely political. Also, our local consumption figure as published is absolutely incorrect.

For the sake of my children and children’s children, we must investigate this fraud. From PPPRA, to NNPC, Independent Marketers, Port Authorities, retired Generals and Other top government officials. Although, the whole fraud existed before 2007, the reasonable take off should be 2007 to date.

Consequently, I have decided to resign my appointment as the Group General Manager, Corporate Affairs of NNPC.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has assured the Hausa/Fulani Communities in the state of adequate protection of their lives and property by the State Government. He said adequate measures have been taken in collaboration with the security agencies to protect them and therefore there was no need to panic or relocate from the State.

Dr. Uduaghan, who gave the assurance at a meeting with the Hausa/Fulani communities in Asaba yesterday, said his administration has made adequate security arrangement to protect all northerners in the state. He said he sees members of Arewa Communities in Asaba as indigenes of Asaba and thus should regard Delta as their home.

The Governor promised to continue to identify with them explaining that he would promote and boost the relationship that has been existing for more than 100 years. His words: “l want to assure you of adequate protection and security of your lives and property. You have been here for so long and you do not have any other place.”

Dr. Uduaghan said the Commissioner of Police, the Director of SSS and the Army Commander are on top of the security challenges and would not allow anyone in the State to be harmed. He enjoined them to report any problem to the traditional ruler in their neigbourhood as well as identify strange and unscrupulous visitors who could constitute threats to the state.

Advising them to live harmoniously with their neigbours, the Governor enjoined them to caution cattle rearers to desist from carrying dangerous weapons. Furthermore, he said “ Live peacefully with your neigbours and advise cattle rearers among you not to look for trouble and should not be carrying dangerous weapons.”

He said he appointed one of them as his Special Assistant to promote mutual understanding and good rapport between Deltans and the Hausa community and give them a sense of belonging. Dr. Uduaghan expressed appreciation to members of the Hausa community for comporting themselves decently in spite of some challenges. The Governor who said some of the negative reports being speculated about the state was not true, said: “ Most negative reports making the rounds are not true.

Delta State is peaceful and there has been no religious or tribal conflict. I am happy that our Arewa brothers can confirm this.” Speaking on behalf of the Arewa Community in Delta State Hon. Bawa Abdullahi said his people are indigenes of the state especially as their fathers, grand-fathers and great grand-fathers had lived in the state for more than 200 years. Hon. Abdullahi said many of their parents married Deltans and were born in the state and they therefore have no place to run to.

He also explained that some of their parents held elective positions and fought with the late Dennis Osadebey for the creation of Delta State. The spokesman expressed appreciation to the Governor for giving them protection and for appointing their son as special assistant.

Subsidy Protest: Yoruba Youth Group Slams Falana, Bakare, Kwami, Others Over

A Yoruba youth group, the Yoruba Youths Consultative Forum (YYCF) has
described the involvement of people like Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi
Falana, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Vice Presidential
candidate in the last April election, Pastor Tunde Bakare, CPC
Spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, Prof Itse Sagay, King Wasiu Ayinde
Mashall (KWAM1) and other rights activists in the ongoing protest
against the removal of oil subsidy, describing them as “bunch of
hypocrites.”
The group also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to listen to the
voice of the people, who elected them, saying; “If the people was
right in electing him, they can’t now be wrong in telling him that
they don’t want to be inflicted with additional hardships, which the
removal of oil subsidy has brought on them since January 1.
YYCF, in a statement signed by its Director of Communications, Mr. Ayo
Olorunsola said it was an insult on the collective intellects of
Nigerians that people, who Nigerians should be protesting against are
the ones presenting themselves as friends of the masses.
The group said those seeking to make political capital out of the
protest are the real enemies of Nigeria, adding that; “President
Goodluck Jonathan and all the 36 States governors are responsible for
the pain inflicted on Nigerians with the oil subsidy removal, hence no
political party should play saint on the matter.”
“It is our position that on this Oil Subsidy issue, Nigerians are
being deceived and taken for a ride again.
“The deceivers are those we saw on the podium, addressing protesters
in Lagos yesterday and today, pretending to be friends of the masses.
Those who lost elections and are in search of political leverage in
preparation for 2015 elections cannot be through friends of the masses
on this issue of fuel subsidy.
“People like Falana, Bakare, Odumakin, Sagay, Bola Tinubu, KWAM1 etc,
who kept criminal silent when Lagosians were protesting against the
Lekki Toll Gate, 700 percent increment of Lagos State University
(LASU) fees, daylight rigging of Lagos Local Government elections etc
do not have any moral rights to be leading protest against removal of
oil subsidy.
“In actual fact, these people should be among the people Nigerians
should be protesting against because they are bunch hypocrites,” the
group said.
