A member of a vigilance group on Thursday shot dead a policeman for allegedly violating the ban on use of motorcycles in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, DSP Othman Abubakar, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Saturday in Yola.

Abubakar said the police corporal, who was returning from his farm in mufti, was shot by the vigilance group member ostensibly in the bid to enforce the ban on the use of motorcycles.

He said the suspect had been arrested and was now with the Criminal Investigation Department investigating the matter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 23rd Amoured Brigade, Yola, had last week declared a ban on the use of motorcycles in the entire state for security reasons.

In another development, the Adamawa Police Command has raised an alarm over the activities of fake policemen in the state capital, Yola.

A statement by Abubakar advised the public to be alert and report any suspicious person in uniform to the nearest police station.

” The Adamawa State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that some unscrupulous elements in the metropolis disguise as policemen and dispossess members of the public of their valuables, especially money and handsets.

” Members of the public are therefore advised to be at alert and report any person (s) found in this act to the nearest police station” the statement said.

Officers and Personnel of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) were thrown into jubilations yesterday at the national headquarters of the service, immediately the suspension news of their boss, David Parradang, was announced.

Investigations by some journalists who visited the Sauka, office of the agency early in the morning on Saturday to read the mood of the staff revealed that from the main gate to the offices, personnel and officers were seen in group cracking jokes, laughing on top their voices and shaking hands in support of the current issue.

A particular group in one of the conference rooms were seen singing in Hausa language “Ba su gudu, su gudu” meaning “he who want to run should run.”

The NIS boss was suspended in a on Friday, in a statement signed by the Director of Press in the Ministry of Interior, Isiaka Yusuf and made available to Newsmen.

Mr. Parradang was asked to immediately proceed on suspension yesterday while the service’s deputy comptroller general, Martin Kure Abeshi was directed to assume the reins of leadership.

Although no reason was advanced for his sudden suspension, reports that a chieftain of the Islamic State IS, Ahmed Al Assir was granted a Nigerian visa in Lebanon, may have prompted the action.

Al Assir was said to have been arrested at an airport in Lebanon while on his way to Nigeria through Egypt.

Reports however revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the issuance of visa to the wanted terrorist who has been on the global terror watch-list.

Other sins of the former Immigration boss were said to include his role in the botched Immigration recruitment last year which ended up in the death of over 20 job seekers, disrespectful to his boss, the former Interior Minister, Comrade Abba Moro among others.

Competent sources on Saturday told Newsmen at the agency’s headquarters that problems of the CG was compounded by service spokesman, Chukwuemeka Obua, who was alleged to have stepped on toes in the name of defending the CG.

The source said : “Obua single handedly remove oga Parradang from as our CG. He has stepped on toes. He does not have regards for anybody and talk in an unprofessional way as an information manager.”

Student Unionist Says Delta State University, Taken Over By Grasses, Farmlands

By Amos Igbebe
A student unionist of Delta State University has rubbished the Anwai Campus of the university, describing it as a glorified secondary school with no facilities for students to learn and compete with their counterparts in other universities across the nation.
The student (name withheld) said to have a good knowledge of the state of the campus which was one of the pride of the immediate past Governor of the state, Emmanuel Uduaghan, it would be good for outsiders to visit the campus and have a self-assessment of the university.
The student unionist was speaking during Miss DELSU Beauty Pageant contest when students of the university campus converged in the late hour of the night for the award winning event.
He said the university, when compared to others within and outside the state, could only qualify for a glorified secondary school considering the poor facilities on the campus and the unwillingness of its management to revamp the deplorable state of the campus.
While enumerating the infrastructural deficiency of the campus and how it affects the psychology of students, the student said “the leaders should come to the school and see for themselves. We don’t have infrastructure in that campus; we are struggling to feel like we are in a university.  As a student unionist, when I go to other campuses and come back, I feel sad because other campuses look like universities, while mine looks like a glorified secondary school”.
The student, who acknowledged the active attempt of the past administration of Prof. Eric Arubayi as Vice Chancellor and his subsisting successor, Prof. Victor Peretemode, to improve the infrastructural state of the university, however, added that the university campus had been taken over by grasses and farmlands, while the classrooms were no longer conducive for scholarly activities.
He claimed that the Anwai Campus had suffered a severe degree of neglect to the detriment of the students and described it as a place which allows for “just come, read and go”.
He said: “the school administration has been on the average, considering the change in leadership which the school and even the state and country have witnessed. We are calling on the new governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to come over and put the school in its supposed shape so that students can university community”.
He, however, acknowledged that Abraka, being the head of the university, deserved adequate attention without prejudicing the compelling need of the other mini campuses of the university and appealed to the state government and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the Anwai Campus by renovating its class rooms and making the environment conducive for learning.
On the beneficial effects of the pageant on the students, he noted that it was positioned to serve as another phase of life for the contestants which, he buttressed that, due to the poor state of the labour market, livelihood was not tied basically to only formal education but other skills acquired over time.
He therefore, enjoined the Miss DELSU to be of good conduct as a model other students could emulate while positively representing the school as best as she could wherever she goes without denting its image.

Imo Speaker Dismisses Impeachment Rumour

The speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Acho Ihim, has stated categorically that there was never any plot, imagined or contrived within or amongst the members of the State House of Assembly to impeach him or any of the Principal officers as speculated in some quarters in the state.
Rumours of a planned impeachment of the speaker and some principal officers became rife since fortnight following the alleged inability of the speaker to get the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to pay the House members their entitlements.
This, it was learnt, led to 18 members of the 27 member-assembly boycotting plenary sessions with most of the members accusing the speaker and the governor of starving them while those with cases at the tribunal complained of the inability to pay their lawyers to defend their cases.
The aggrieved lawmakers were said to have been having series of meetings on possible ways to remove the speaker and replacing him with one of the lawmakers from Okigwe South Federal Constituency.
But, speaking with newsmen in his residence weekend in Owerri after he emerged as the deputy president of Common Wealth Parliamentary Association, Ihim described the impeachment rumour as mere speculation meant to destablise the House of assembly, insisting that the house members were very much united as one family and could not have been involved in any impeachment move.
He stated that it was glaring that majority of the members of the Assembly were fully committed to delivering dividends of democracy to their various constituencies and would stand against any act that would throw the state into chaos.
Ihim insisted that majority of the house members were with him and that some even came to the airport to receive him after his victorious outing at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Kenya.
While admitting that the House members might not have received hundred percent of their entitlements, the speaker said the governor was doing everything possible to ensure that the house and its members were not starved of funds despite the current economic situation in the country.
“This is just two months after our inauguration. Not even the federal government has cleared all that the National Assembly wants. The governor is a listening governor and he will not want the house to suffer”, said the speaker.
On the ongoing outcry by the civil servants and pensioners in the state over months of unpaid salaries and pensions, Ihim urged the civil servants in the state to bear with state government, which he said never owed any worker throughout the last four years.
He assured them that the situation would surely get better to the point nobody would complain again of non-payment, saying for now, the state government was working according to available resources.
On his new position as the Vice president of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Ihim expressed happiness that he emerged winner in the keenly contested position.
He disclosed that the state would host the association in 2017.

Vice President of Afghanistan survives Taliban ambush

Afghan Vice President, Gen. Abdul-Rashid Dostum
Afghan Vice President, Gen. Abdul-Rashid Dostum

Afghan Vice President, Gen. Abdul-Rashid Dostum, survived a Taliban ambush on Friday in northern Afghanistan, while leading a military offensive against the insurgency.

Sultan Faizy, His Media Advisor, said in Kabul that Dostum was returning to his base after observing a check post in Qaisar District, when the Taliban ambushed his convoy, which followed a gun battle.

“Gen. Dostum was travelling in a tank-type vehicle, which received some bullets. Nothing happened to him. None of the security forces were injured or killed’’, he said.

Faizy said Dostum has been overseeing a joint offensive, including the Afghan special forces and village militias under his patronage in northern Afghanistan against the Taliban insurgents for the past three weeks.

He said his focus had been Faryab, the volatile north-western province, where hundreds of Taliban insurgents had been killed and captured.

“Dostum has been planning, observing, and closely evaluating the operations in the north.

Faizy said he has led many of the joint operations that captured tens of fighters, including foreigners from Chechnya, Pakistan and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU).

IMU recently pledged their allegiance to the Islamic State group.

The conflict has also displaced more than 30,000 civilians this year, according to Norwegian Refugee Council.

Dostum is a feared Uzbek strongman who led a brutal fight against the Islamist extremist Taliban.

His fighters were accused of gross human rights violations during the civil war in the 1990s.

Ojougboh, Anyim, PDP and Anecdote on Thrasybulus – By Sunny Bright Attah

0
Anyim-Pius-Anyim
Okay. So who is Dr Cairo Ojougboh, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman South-South trying to fool? Nigerians are serious about the anti-corruption crusade and they scant tolerance for anyone trying to turn it into a charade. How else can one describe the ongoing spat between Ojougboh and former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Pius Anyim?

Ojougboh accused the former SGF of unilaterally acquiring the multi-billion-dollar Centenary City on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja. Under a government that has openly committed to ridding the nation of corruption, the logical thing for the PDP chieftain to do about his new found passion of tackling graft is to collect more evidence and submit same to the anti-graft agencies to take it up from there. Instead, he resorted to made-for-television theatrics that have been the bane of previous efforts at combating sleaze.
Interestingly, Anyim’s response was to sue his accuser for defamation and libel. The case is pending before a competent court so the expectation was that Ojougboh, with his level of enlightenment would have at least allow the court ruling to speak for him. He rather resorted to trial by media, another bane of previous anti-corruption fight as few of the people who are sensationally accused in the media were ever indicted, arraigned or convicted.

One is thus confounded as to what this PDP chieftain wants to achieve by approaching equity with tainted hands. There have been speculations that his latter day anti corruption stance masks a darker and more sinister agenda. It has been mentioned in some circles that Anyim name merely happened to be top on a list drawn up by Ojougboh by fluke of alphabetical placement. The contrived crisis for the former SGF would be a lullaby compared to what the others have coming for them. Although not the stuff of mainstream media, Ojougboh is apparently out to implement his own version of the Anecdote on Thrasybulus in the PDP.

Wikipedia entry narrates that “Thrasybulus was an ally of Periander, the tyrant of Corinth. He features in a famous anecdote from Herodotus’s Histories, in which a messenger from Periander asks Thrasybulus for advice on ruling. Thrasybulus, instead of responding, takes the messenger for a walk in a field of wheat, where he proceeds to cut off all of the best and tallest ears of wheat. The message, correctly interpreted by Periander, was that a wise ruler would preempt challenges to his rule by “removing” those prominent men who might be powerful enough to challenge him…”

But that is where the similarity ends. Only a wise ruler would be able to pull off the coup suggested in the anecdote and get away with it. Trying to truncate a widely desired anti corruption crusade with distractions scarcely qualifies as a smart thing so one will not even try to describe it as wise. Same goes for keeping up a ruckus over a case for which one has already been dragged before a court.

He is obviously inured to such perils since the anticipation of the prize has somehow incapacitated him from being able to correctly predict that there are too many leaders in his party to mow down. Assuming he successfully removes Anyim from the equation, how long will it take him to eliminate the many other sincere and capable hands that are poised to re-positioning the one time ruling party? He certainly cannot be done by 2023 by which time he would have sent his party out of relevance. He must thus appreciate that using the desire for a corruption free Nigeria as the cover to decimate those he perceive as being on his ascension path is scarcely the way to go.
It must be noted that a man, who can contrive crisis for his party and distractions for the nation in a twisted re-enactment of the Anecdote of Thrasybulus has gone beyond being deluded. He has become a danger to everyone as no one can say with a certainty what his next act of megalomania would be if or when he successfully supplant other deserving leaders in his party.

This is where the present government must save Ojougboh from himself and also save Nigeria from Ojougboh. The Centenary City project is a matter already in the public domain so the government needs to remind this character that it does not need his braying to act in ways it has promised Nigerians it will act. The anti-graft agencies must remain focused on their existing modus operandi and not be stampeded by people who have not backed allegations with facts.

On his part, Dr Cairo Ojougboh will do himself a world of good by staying off matters that can leave him being found sub judice. It so happens that there are been truckloads of accusation against him in cases that should make the federal government send Special Forces to the South-South. He can make these his past time and make sure he thoroughly laid his ghosts to rest before trying to derail the nation.

Assassinations of Harry Marshal, Dikibo: Pius  Anyim’s Hallucinations, Infantile Thievery and Concorted Lies

0

Ebonyi  Liberation  Council
10, Ikwo Street, Abakaliki

Ordinarily, we have no business responding to these childish tantrums as it relates to our highly respected National Vice Chairman  (South South) of our great party,  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Cairo Ojougbo.
We refer to the South South Rennaissance Group and New PDP Reformation and Coalition Groups accusing our leader of masterminding the assassinations of  former leaders of the party in the persons of late Marshal Harry and Dr Aminasoari Dikibo, our great party men. May their souls rest in the bossom of the Lord.

We know too well that the above groups are non-existent and are the creations of  former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim. We are also aware that illiteracy and the looting mentality acquired since 1999 has robbed him and his groups of the ability come to terms with historical records but we intend to educate them further.

Dikibo

*Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had at the time of the assassinations stated that Dr Dikibo was killed by armed robbers. The police concluded that it was a robbery attack although Dikibo’s  family disagreed with these positions.

*Former President Obasanjo subsequently set up a 6-man panel of enquiry led by Justice F. Ukata, retired Chief Judge of Abia State to look into the matter. The investigation has remained inconclusive.

Marshal Harry

*Even very recently, an Australian hostage negotiator, who spent sometime trying to secure the release of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram revealed that he and President  “Obasanjo found out that Obasanjo’s Transport Minister, Abiye Sekibo, had contracted the assassins who killed a prominent politician, Harry Marshall. He said he tried to persuade Mr. Obasanjo to prosecute Mr. Sekibo, but the then president declined, stating that such a trial could bring down his government”.

Abuja Centenary City Project

It is obvious that Chief Anyim’s unholy activities as they concern the Abuja centenary project has exposed him as  a huge fraud . His fraudulent activities as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Jonathan has led him and his groups to the desperation to the point of  unleashing unfounded allegations on matters that are of public record further potraying him  a monumental fraud and why  late Senate President, Chuba Okadigbo aptly described him as “ a mass of protoplasm”- a reference to his huge appetite for fraud.
It was the dubious and selfish actions of people like Pius Anyim and his cohorts that led to our party’s defeat at the last presidential election.

As our leader contended, Chief Anyim conered the centenary city project, a huge project spanning  3,000 hectares, the size of three districts in Abuja, that is, Garki, Maitama and Asokoro put together and registered it in his company’s name and paid out N1.2 billion as compensation to Abuja natives.
He claimed the place was a free trade zone but the Nigerian Export Processing zone  Authority (NEPZA) only listed the Abuja Technology Village as “Abuja Technology Village Free Zone” confirming our leader’s position that the centenary project was dubiously designated a free trade zone.

Ebonyi State PDP

We make bold to say that this same overbearing conduct has been brought to bear on the Ebonyi State Government which Chief Anyim claimed to have installed and has continued to harass the governor to the point of demanding to be made Secretary to the State Government. From SGF to SSG! What further proof of greed can one ask for?

Conclusion

We are, therefore, asking Chief Pius Anyim and his faceless groups to respond to the HEIST at the Abuja Centenary City Project and come to terms with the prospects of serving a jail term. This would probably allow the government in Ebonyi to achieve focus and allow our leader, Chief Cairo Ojougbo and other party faithful  to focus on the job of rebuilding our party and allow  our GREAT  PARTY  to  reclaim its  lost glory.

PDP Flaws Amaechi’s Claim On N7.5b Leftover

0

Press Statement

…Says It’s Vindicated By Bancorp Bank Revelations Of Amaechi’s N80b Loot In US, Switzerland Banks

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, says the recent claim by the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, that he left behind as balances in the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account with some banks in the State a total ofN7.5billion does not go down well with the Party, as there was no such amount in the State treasury on assumption of office by the current administration of Governor Wike on May 29, 2015.

The PDP describes Amaechi’s claim as false, unfounded and indefensible, pointing out flaws, inconsistency and uncertainty in the former Governor’s statement where he said he left a total of N7.5billion “but by the time you pull all these (accounts) together, we are looking at readily available cash in the region of eight to ten billion naira left for the Wike administration”.

The Party reiterates its position that the former governor stole billions of Dollars and looted assets belonging to the State, some of which he used in funding the activities of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and also lodged in several of his private foreign accounts.

Supporting its argument, the Party calls the attention of the public to the recent revelation by the Bancorp Bank, Minnesota, United States, in which it has communicated to the Nigerian Government an alleged $757 million Dollars (N80 Billion) domiciled in an account in Amaechi’s name by one of Nigerians banks, explaining that the Minnesota bank intends to return Rotimi Amaechi’s loot, which was part of the stolen funds by the former Governor, who in the letter is described as the most corrupt Nigerian Governor.

The Bancorp Bank letter to President Buhari stated that the said transfer to both banks in Minnesota and Switzerland were for the purchase of security Helicopters, spraying of Mosquito insecticides and for the purchase of a residence for Mr. Rotimi Amaechi in America.

Not done with the above instances, the PDP further explained that Rivers State was bankrupt under Amaechi, even when he was receiving about Six billion Naira monthly as IGR, demanding answers from Amaechi on why he could not pay Civil servants, Pensioners, TIMARIV workers, Students’ Scholarship, Contractors, Teachers at the Nne Krubo Model Secondary School, Eleme among others, for several months when he still had the said amount he claimed he left in the State’s treasury.

It is on record that the former Governor admitted that Rivers State was broke and that “there was nothing for Wike to work with because the State was broke”.

Expressing concern why the long delay in making his claim public, the PDP challenges the former Governor to substantiate his claims and to a public debate if he would be taken seriously.

The PDP therefore, calls on the public not to believe the concocted and fallacious claims of former Governor Amaechi, as there was no such amount left behind by his administration that even deliberately refused to collaborate or have an interface with the May 29 Transition Committee on Governor Nyesom Wike, adding that there are enough evidence on several corrupt actions and the monumental looting carried out by Chibuike Amaechi and his aides, which must be recovered.
