AWKA — Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has condemned the mob assault of an academic staff member in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, following an allegation of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student.
In a statement issued by the university management, the institution expressed deep concern over a viral video showing students physically assaulting and stripping the lecturer on campus. University authorities stated that while the administration maintains zero tolerance for sexual harassment and misconduct, it equally condemns jungle justice, harassment, and violent self-help on university grounds.
The management confirmed that a formal investigation panel has been instituted to establish the facts surrounding the initial sexual assault allegation, as well as the identities of the individuals involved in the physical assault on the staff member.
According to the university, appropriate disciplinary measures will be enforced against anyone found culpable in accordance with the institution’s regulations and established codes of conduct.
