RIYADH — Saudi Arabia is preparing for potential simultaneous military strikes launched by Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups and Yemen’s Houthi movement under the direct coordination of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to a senior Saudi official citing joint intelligence from Riyadh, Washington, and regional security partners.
The intelligence assessments indicate that the multi-front threat involves potential attacks from both the northern border with Iraq and the southern border with Yemen using coordinated swarms of drones and ballistic missiles.
Key elements of the security alert include:
- Targeted Infrastructure: Intelligence suggests suspected targets are primarily civilian and vital economic infrastructure, including energy facilities, major commercial seaports, and international airports.
- IRGC Coordination: Saudi security tracking detected recent operational meetings involving representatives from Iraqi militia groups, Houthi commanders, and IRGC personnel, alongside monitored movements of advanced weaponry.
- Escalating Hostilities: The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent Houthi missile and drone strikes targeting shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as recent joint strikes by Saudi forces and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) against Iran-backed militia positions in Iraq.
The Saudi official emphasized that the Kingdom is taking all necessary defensive precautions and intelligence measures to counter any incoming aggression against its territory and national infrastructure.
