FirstPower Confirms Arrest of Another Set of Suspected Transformer Vandals in Anambra

October 9, 2026

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has confirmed the arrest of two more suspected electricity infrastructure vandals in Anambra State, following the vandalisation of its DSS Annex B transformer at Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Chukwuebuka Charles Nwangwu and Chimezie Nwankwo, both males from Awkuzu community, were arrested on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achị attached to the Enugwu-Agidi unit.

According to a security report received by the Company, the suspects were apprehended in connection with the vandalisation of the transformer, with exhibits reportedly recovered during the operation. The report further stated that the suspects had confessed to the alleged crime.

The suspects and recovered exhibits have consequently been moved to the Abagana Police Station for preliminary investigation, while efforts are underway to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The latest arrests come amid FirstPower’s sustained efforts to curb the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure across Anambra State, a menace that continues to undermine electricity distribution, disrupt supply to communities and impose significant financial costs on the Company through repairs and replacement of damaged or stolen equipment.

The Management reiterates its commitment to working with security agencies and host communities to identify and bring perpetrators of electricity infrastructure vandalism to justice. The Company also appreciates and urges residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around transformers, electricity poles, cables and other installations to the appropriate authorities.

FirstPower warned that the destruction of electricity infrastructure affects not only the Company but also customers and entire communities who depend on the facilities for electricity supply. It therefore calls on members of the public to support its ongoing “Name and Shame” initiative by providing credible information that can assist in preventing vandalism and electricity theft, while also safeguarding critical power assets.
