ABUJA, Nigeria — Political commentator, finance expert, and activist Omotayo Williams has issued a formal press release appealing to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and align behind Labour Party leader Peter Obi to form a single opposition coalition.
In a statement released on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Williams argued that the opposition cannot afford another split vote, which previously enabled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure victory in 2023.
Williams emphasized that after multiple attempts at the presidency, Atiku’s most historic political contribution would be stepping aside to mentor and unite opposition forces. He highlighted Peter Obi’s broad appeal across non-traditional voter demographics and grassroots movements, describing him as the most viable candidate to rally a unified front capable of defeating the incumbent administration.
The appeal comes amidst ongoing realignments and coalition talks within major opposition camps, as political leaders weigh strategies to present a consolidated presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
