EZINATO / AWKA — A horrifying case of child defilement, abduction, and attempted human trafficking has come to light in Ezinato community, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, involving the sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old minor by a 30-year-old adult predator identified as Mr. Okeke.

The minor, who was lured and sexually abused after being sent on a routine neighborhood errand, was subsequently moved across multiple state boundaries in an apparent inter-state child trafficking scheme before being rescued by police officers in Abuja.

Lured, Defiled in Hotel, and Loaded onto Sokoto-Bound Bus

Details of the crime reveal a calculated pattern of exploitation targeting the vulnerable minor:

  • Abduction and Sexual Violence: On July 15, 2026, Mr. Okeke targeted and abducted the 14-year-old girl in Ezinato, Anambra State. Investigations reveal he took the victim to a local hotel, where he repeatedly defiled her overnight.
  • Interstate Trafficking Pipeline: The following day, the suspect transported the disoriented child through Onitsha and Asaba before placing her into a commercial vehicle heading to Sokoto State.
  • Abuja Highway Interception: Police patrol officers along the Abuja expressway grew suspicious of the minor’s confused and incoherent state during a stop-and-search operation, pulling her off the bus and halting the trafficking attempt.

Serial Abuse Suspicions Surface

Following the suspect’s apprehension by community vigilance units and law enforcement, interrogation reports indicate that Okeke allegedly confessed to involvement in the earlier disappearance of the victim’s elder sister under identical circumstances:

CRIME LOCATION: Ezinato Community, Awka South LGA, Anambra State
OFFENSES: Child Defilement, Statutory Rape, Abduction, Attempted Human Trafficking
PRIMARY SUSPECT: Mr. Okeke (Adult Male, ~30s)
  VICTIM: 14-Year-Old Female Minor
TRAFFICKING ROUTE: Ezinato (Anambra) -> Onitsha -> Asaba -> Abuja (Rescued) -> Sokoto Target

Demands for Immediate Criminal Prosecution

With the minor currently undergoing trauma assessment, civil rights advocates and local stakeholders in Anambra State are demanding that the Anambra State Police Command and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) charge Mr. Okeke with non-bailable offenses of child defilement, rape, and human trafficking under the Child Rights Law and the VAPP Act.
