LAGOS — A Nigerian woman, Emilia Godwin, has expressed deep bitterness following her repatriation from South Africa, detailing how her husband was allegedly killed in the country.
Speaking shortly after touching down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Godwin vowed never to step foot back in South Africa, describing her experience as a nightmare where foreign nationals are treated like slaves.
Her arrival coincided with the return of the first batch of hundreds of Nigerian nationals evacuated from Johannesburg by the Federal Government following escalating anti-migrant hostilities and diplomatic tensions.

In an interview, Godwin described the hostile conditions in South Africa, alleging routine physical abuse and harassment of foreigners. She claimed local women target Nigerian men to seize assets, accusing them of murdering her husband and vowing never to return to the country.
The repatriation exercise, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NEMA with support from Air Peace, follows a surge in violence that led over 1,000 Nigerians to register for evacuation.
