Security sources have issued a red alert over an ongoing meeting of armed groups outside Jos, warning of planned coordinated attacks on villages in the Du and Zawan Districts of Jos South Local Government Area, with the assault window reportedly opening as early as the night of Monday, September 14.
According to the alert, received September 14 and reported by TruthNigeria, the following communities have been placed on high alert:
- Heipang
- Farin Lamba
- Kuru Station, Wereng-Camp and Wereng
- K-Vom and Dahwak
- Bisichi
Residents in and around the affected areas have been advised to take precautionary measures, including closing grocery stores and avoiding other crowded spaces early, particularly after dark. Security operatives and community civilian watch groups in the area have reportedly been notified and urged to heighten surveillance and patrols.
Part of a broader national alert picture
The Jos South warning lands amid a wider, independently confirmed wave of security alerts across Nigeria in recent days. A Nigeria Police Force wireless message dated September 13, 2026 — obtained by SaharaReporters and marked “Security General, Treat as Very Important” — was circulated nationwide to Assistant Inspectors-General overseeing all 17 police zones, mobile police units, counter-terrorism formations, and state police commissioners, warning of planned terrorist attacks on churches, schools, and NYSC camps. Separately, the Department of State Services (DSS) held briefings on September 9 with Muslim and Christian community leaders in Osun State, reportedly warning that armed groups were mapping out attacks intended to spread violence into southern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections, with intelligence suggesting attackers would move through Kaduna and Jos before pushing further south.
Plateau State has been the site of repeated, well-documented attacks throughout 2026, including a March attack on Angwan-Rukuba in Jos that killed 28 people, prompting Governor Caleb Mutfwang to reinforce a citywide motorcycle ban, and a string of recent killings across Mangu LGA earlier this month.
