KADUNA — Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected imposter who has been posing as a senior military officer to deceive and defraud unsuspecting citizens in Kaduna State.
The suspect was apprehended following a targeted intelligence operation by security forces who had been tracking his suspicious movements and illicit dealings within the state.
Investigation revealed that the suspect had been falsely operating under the name of a respected senior officer, Major General A.T. Ibrahim. He reportedly utilized the high-ranking military identity, alongside fake uniforms and forged credentials, to facilitate various illegal activities and extort money from members of the public under the guise of offering military protection and securing job placements.
The fake soldier’s operations came to an end after security operatives received tip-offs from victims who became suspicious of his conduct and conflicting demands. Military intelligence subsequently laid an ambush, leading to his arrest while he was in the process of executing another fraudulent transaction.
Military sources confirmed that the suspect is currently undergoing rigorous interrogation in custody to determine how he obtained military accoutrements and to identify any accomplices within his fraudulent network.
The military command in Kaduna has reiterated its warning to the public to remain vigilant and verify the identities of individuals claiming to be security agents, emphasizing that the army has zero tolerance for impersonation and criminal activities that tarnish its institutional image.
