ABUJA, NIGERIA — The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has strongly refuted a viral media report alleging that he accused the Kano State Government of mismanaging public funds.
In an official press statement released on Saturday and signed by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, the APC leader characterized the publication as false, misleading, and entirely fabricated to stir up needless political discord.
Lack of Verifiable Details Questioned
The controversy stems from an unverified media report claiming that Ganduje granted an interview where he criticized the current Kano State administration for financial mismanagement, specifically concerning payments distributed to former local government councillors.
Reacting swiftly, Ganduje’s media team threw a challenge to the originators of the report, highlighting that the publication completely failed to present basic journalistic evidence to back up its claims. The statement noted that the report did not indicate the venue, date, time, media platform, or the identity of the journalist who supposedly conducted the interview.

“There was no occasion where Dr. Ganduje made such remarks,” the statement clarified, asserting that the report was a deliberate attempt to distort his stance. “The source of this misleading publication is currently being traced, and necessary legal steps will be taken once those behind it are identified.”
Operating as an Elder Statesman
The statement further elevated Ganduje’s status, noting that as a former two-term governor and the head of the national ruling party, he possesses direct, high-level lines of communication with government officials at both the state and federal levels.
According to his Chief of Staff, if Ganduje ever felt the need to evaluate governance strategies or offer corrections, he would utilize formal, constructive administrative channels rather than turning to public media platforms to air grievances.
“Given his status as an elder statesman who has access to government officials at both the national and state levels, it will be unbecoming of Dr. Ganduje to invite the media to publicly express his views on how governments are being run,” the statement added.
A Warning Against Fake News
Reaffirming his ongoing commitment to national peace, public accountability, and responsible political engagements, Ganduje urged the public to completely disregard the fabricated interview.
He further cautioned media organizations and social media commentators to strictly adhere to professional standards of verification, urging them to diligently vet sensitive reports involving public figures before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation in the political space.
