ABUA-ODUAL, RIVERS STATE — Heavily armed security personnel have been deployed across key corridors in Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State following the arrival of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for a high-stakes stakeholder town hall meeting.
The massive security surge follows recent deadly violence in the local government area, where suspected political thugs opened fire during a community gathering organized to confer a chieftaincy title on Hon. Ottos, the African Democratic Congress candidate for the Rivers West Senatorial District.
The gunfire incident resulted in casualties and fatal injuries among Abua-Odual natives, provoking widespread outrage and intensifying fears over escalating political intimidation across the state’s senatorial districts.
Addressing party loyalists, traditional leaders, and political allies gathered at the council venue, Wike’s visit under tight security supervision is seen by observers as a direct assertion of political influence over the area ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
Local civic leaders and opposition figures continue to demand an independent police investigation into the fatal attack on the chieftaincy gathering, urging federal law enforcement agencies to apprehend the armed assailants and restore lasting peace to the volatile LGA.
