YENAGOA, NIGERIA — The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Ibobuminaten Oweifa for allegedly setting another resident, Godgift Biko, on fire following a dispute over missing wood.

The incident occurred today in the Okodi Community, located within the Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State.

The Dispute and Attack

According to preliminary reports from local sources, an altercation broke out between the two men when Oweifa accused Biko of stealing wood. The confrontation rapidly escalated when the suspect allegedly retrieved petrol, doused Biko, and set him ablaze.

The victim suffered severe burn injuries from the attack and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. His current medical condition has not been officially confirmed by hospital authorities.

Police Intervention and Impending Arraignment

Following a distress call from community members, operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command moved swiftly into the Okodi community to apprehend the suspect and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The Police Command confirmed that Oweifa is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. In a statement tracking the development, authorities indicated that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the violent assault.
