AGULUZIGBO, ANAMBRA STATE โ SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 โ Tragedy has struck Ifite village in Aguluzigbo town, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra Stateโthe hometown of Senator Victor Umehโfollowing the gruesome murder of a young, mentally disabled man inside a local shrine.
The victim, who was well-known to residents as a caretaker who routinely cleaned and cleared the premises of the Obi Enwedo shrine (popularly known as Arushi Enwedo), was discovered dead on Tuesday morning.
Gruesome Discovery and Blood Trail
Local eyewitnesses and residents who gathered at the scene reported that the victim, who also slept inside the shrine building, was brutally attacked overnight with a sharp object, believed to be a machete.
A clear trail of blood leading from the interior of the shrine into a nearby bush indicated that the assailant or assailants murdered the victim inside the sacred building before dragging his bloodied body into the surrounding brush.
Community Reaction and Security Concerns
The brutal killing has plunged the Aguluzigbo community into mourning and sparked widespread fear among residents regarding rising insecurity in the area.
While local elders and youth leaders have condemned the barbaric act, community members are calling on security agencies to track down those responsible for the murder. As of press time, the Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official public statement regarding the incident.
