We, the leadership and members of Peace and Unity Media Advocacy (PUMA), gathered at our Congress meeting held today, Saturday, July 6, 2025, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, wish to commend the governments of Kano State and Edo State for their prompt and effective handling of the unfortunate killing of 14 hunters from Kano in Uromi, Edo State.

Under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, we appreciate the swift actions taken to address the situation, ensure justice, and maintain peace in the region. Notably, the leadership of both governments paid condolence visits to the families of the bereaved, demonstrating their commitment to the welfare of the victims’ families.

Furthermore, we commend the governments of Kano and Edo States for their generous financial donations to each of the bereaved families. These gestures demonstrate the governments’ empathy and support for the families during this difficult time.

We urge both governments to continue working together to prevent such incidents in the future and to promote unity and understanding among all Nigerians.

PUMA COMMENDS KANO, EDO GOVERNMENTS OVER UROMI KILLINGS

Abuja, July 6, 2025 – The Peace and Unity Media Advocacy (PUMA) has commended the governments of Kano and Edo States for their handling of the recent killing of 14 hunters from Kano in Uromi, Edo State.

At a Congress meeting held in Abuja today, PUMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah, praised the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State for their prompt and effective response to the incident.

“We appreciate the swift actions taken by both governments to address the situation, ensure justice, and maintain peace in the region,” Comrade Isah said. “The condolence visits paid to the families of the bereaved by the leadership of both governments demonstrate their commitment to the welfare of the victims’ families.”

According to reports, the governments of Kano and Edo States made generous financial donations to each of the bereaved families, with the Kano State government donating ₦5 million to each family, while the Edo State government donated ₦3 million. These gestures have been widely appreciated by the families and the public.

PUMA commended the governors for their empathy and support for the families during this difficult time. “The actions of both governments have shown that they prioritize the welfare and well-being of their citizens, even in times of crisis,” Comrade Isah added.

The organization urged both governments to continue working together to prevent such incidents in the future and to promote unity and understanding among all Nigerians. By commending the governments, PUMA hopes to encourage continued collaboration and cooperation between the two states and other stakeholders in promoting peace and unity in Nigeria.
