Senator Victor Umeh, senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP for Anambra Central Senatorial District, has described the party as the only movement that can bring Nigeria out of duldrum, saying that the only candidate of a party that can achieve such feat is Peter Obi.
He said he is grateful to God that the party has not been infiltrated by corrupt and expired politicians who dominated other major major political parties that have nearly plunged the country into an abyss.
Umeh who spoke at stakeholders meeting in Awka, Anambra state, expressed the confidence that the 2023 general elections would afford Nigerians an ample opportunity to effect necessary changes that would bring back the nation”s lost glory.
Addressing party faithfuls, Chief Clement Ojukwu, the party”s National Organizing Secretary, Chief Clement Ojukwu, disclosed that the essence of the meeting was to inform Nigerians that the Labour Party was fully prepared for the 2023 general elections in all ramifications.
Ojukwu added that their candidates were elected during the party’s primaries based on their vast experience and political backgrounds.
He therefore urged them to commence aggressive consultation with electorates and other relevant stakeholders in their various constituencies ahead of INEC scheduled campaigns.
He also disclosed that the LP, being workers party, has joined the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC protest in solidarity for the ongoing ASUU strike.
In his remarks, the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, who was represented by Mr Oseloka Obaze, said the Labour Party has come to renew, transform and free the country from the current security and social economic challenges.
He appealed to supporters of the party to accept new members in their various areas to ensure victory at the election proper.
He said, “Peter Obi could not come because of his busy schedules as he is also currently meeting with other stakeholders. What we are doing today is for our children and the betterment of the country”.
“That is why Obi left where he was to join the Labour Party and we are ready to follow him till he enters Aso Rock. The Peter Obi movement has gone beyond our party, anybody that wants this country to remain in existence should key into this movement so as to take our country back from the doldrums”.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh and the party’s youth leader, Ekene Nnadi maintained that all the LP candidates should collapse all the support groups with a view to work as one.
According to Emeh and Nnadi, ” we need to start on time, so that the people will get aware of where to cast their votes, we are not undermining anybody or government, but we have to be obedient to constituted authorities so that when we are in government, people will obey us too,”.
