Senatorial candidate of Anambra South District under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Chief Ebuka Onunkwo has urged his supporters not to attack the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) urging them to sell their candidates and the party in the 2027 general election.
Onunkwo also dismissed fears about election rigging contending that the Anambra South electorates know where to vote and would ensure that their wishes and aspirations were not compromised.
Onunkwo disclosed this at a meeting, held on Tuesday at his Ihembosi residence, had in attendance ward and LGA executives as well as leaders of over 15 support groups rooting for the Seahorse brand.
Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, while addressing his supporters, emphasized the need for unity of purpose and issue-based engagement as the campaign begins, noting that the Anambra South project is beyond personal interest.
In a show of uncommon political maturity, the frontline Senatorial aspirant urged his followers not to attack opposition parties, particularly APGA.
According to him, he remains a product of APGA and contributed immensely to the growth of the party, therefore his supporters should focus on selling his capacity and track record instead of engaging in brickbats.
“Do not abuse APGA. Many of us toiled to build APGA, a party brought to limelight by our leader, Mr. Peter Obi. Let us market our achievements and allow Ndi Anambra South to decide. They know who truly represents Nke Anyi,” he said.
He also promised to run an all-inclusive representation if elected Senator.
“I will be a Senator for everybody. Whether you are in APGA, APC, LP or NDC, once I am elected, I shall represent the entire Anambra South. There will be no discrimination and my empowerment programs will accommodate APGA and other party faithful,” he assured.
On the insinuations of possible rigging, Onunkwo maintained that no rigging plot can survive against a determined electorate.
He stated that the people of Anambra South have always resisted manipulation as demonstrated in 2019 and 2023, adding that 2027 will be no different as the will of the people will prevail over any rigging machinery.
Chief Onunkwo also charged the party faithful and support groups to focus on sensitising the grassroots on the need to vote and defend their mandate on election day.
Other speakers at the event included the Campaign Director General, Chief Okey Enekwe, who harped on the need for issue-based campaign and harmony amongst party members and support groups.
Professor Patrick Nky Obi charged party faithful to embark on booth-to-booth advocacy to enlighten the people and get them to join the liberation movement.
Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike (Dike Udo) called on Ndi Anambra South to look beyond the scam rhetorics by persons hiding their selfish interests under party slogans.
State House of Assembly candidates present also took turns to address the gathering, while the State Chairman of NDC urged members to remain focused on the ball.
The interactive session ended with a renewed commitment from the support groups to take the Odoziobodo message to all the nooks and crannies of Anambra South.
