APC Group Picks Holes In Plans To Conduct Direct Primary In Bauchi
Bauchi Youth Advocate for Good Governance has opposed the adoption of the direct primary election system in the state All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bauchi state in the interest of peaceful, free, fair and harmony in the state.
Chairman of the group, Muhammad Auwal Garba told reporters at a Press conference in Bauchi that the stand of the state chapter of the party calling for indirect primaries was based on having a smooth conduct of election which is void of rancour and chaos.
Auwal Garba said that Bauchi state is among the vulnerable states in the North-East in terms of security. Also, a peculiar threat of Sara Suka (political thugs) and the battle to uproot them is yet to be completed. Those thugs are foot soldiers to dance, capable of dancing to the tune of bad politicians
He said that As youths, we have resolved to have a peaceful state and a direct primary is not safe for our state at the moment having carefully observed the situation on ground.
The Group Chairman further said that they are not unaware of some dubious plans of the opposition parties who are fanning the agitation of a direct primary election in the APC in order to produce an incompetent person to emerge the APC flag bearer, particularly in the gubernatorial race.
It is the hope of this group that the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will consider our stand on this matter of conducting a direct primary election given the risk involved and intervene as a matter of urgency and necessity, he concluded.
It would be recalled that the APC national Secretariat has purportedly designated Bauchi state as one of the states that are to use the direct primaries system in conducting the forthcoming primary election of the party.
In a related Development a die heart supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari Alhaji Aliyu Dogarai Ningi has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bauchi State.
The commendation was made yesterday by an APC critical stakeholder Alhaji Aliyu Dogarai Ningi in an interview with reporters in Bauchi, he said that direct primaries is the best option for electing Governorship candidate in Bauchi State.
He said, “I am here, because of the impression I got by APC which I observed it will be a great achievement by General Muhammadu Buhari, because is part of his promised that he will do his best to put Nigeria democracy in a proper way by bringing this direct primary. If properly administer and it did not give leave holes for rigging or writing fictitious result”.
Ningi said that, by implementing the direct primaries in Bauchi a common man in the street would now have a right, while those elected will do all the best to see that the are working for the people, and they will do all they can to ensure that developmental projects are put in place not given the people a bag of rice, or some small among of money to only few and abandon the majority.
He said most of this party officials have been corrupted by incumbent Governors, but direct primaries would empower the common man to hold elected politicians responsible for their inability to perform in office and
“Since the politician’s know that is the right of the common man to elected candidates during primaries. I believe the elected people will try to see that the work for the people and ensure development of their areas. Especially in heath, education as well as economic development”.
He said direct primaries would also reduce stealing of people money in government and corruption will drastically remove or minimize because the politician’s know that tomorrow they will go back to the people looking for votes to became candidates of their parties.
Ningi further stressed that, any elected politicians that failed to work for his people the mandate is in their hands and after four years he will be remove in office or dropped and another person will replace him.
He expressed optimism that sooner or later other political parties would try to follow the APC pattern in bringing out candidates during primaries because they would believe Nigerian people are looking for credible people not those accumulated wealth through corruption.
