Member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Ossy Prestige has assured residents and business owners in his constituency that the independent power station; Geometric power would soon supply power on 24 hours before December 2016.
Briefing newsmen in Aba, the lawmaker who commended the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola for his intervention which saw to the breaking of the logjam between the company and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), vowed to ensure that Geometric power station which had remained fallow three after years of its completion, would commence operation to supply needed 24 hours power supply to the city.
Hon. Prestige lamented that absence of regular power supply in Aba has caused more harm than good to business activities in Aba , which he added, have given rise to youth unemployment in the state.
According to him, “Geometric when it finally takes off by December would give uninterrupted power supply to Aba and as such giving rise to more job opportunities, reduce high rate of crime, reduce cost of production and increase the production output of manufacturers and entrepreneurs whose businesses depend on electricity supply power for the survival.
“Aba is a commercial city that is being patronized by people from within Nigeria and other West Africa countries. And over the years, the level of power distribution and supply in Aba is nothing to write home about. People are relocating to other states to save cost of production, the cost of production is way up the ladder; the overhead cost is higher than the income. You need to see how much people spend on diesel daily and that is not good.
“With the signing of papers being completed and Geometric expected to start 24hours power supply in Aba by December, as I was assured, Aba will have uninterrupted power supply. This will create more opportunities for the youths to be gainfully employed. More investors coming in to build factories, cases of overbilling or estimated billing phased out. The multiplier effect would triple and the city will be better for it.”
