Following the recent revelations about how the immediate-past governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, beat his wife, Barr (Mrs) Chioma Ohakim, to coma in Abuja, the former First Lady has issued a warning to any journalist who goes out of her way to publish bad reports about her family.

This is even as Mrs. Ohakim denied that her husband beat her to  coma recently.

247ureports.com had learnt from a reliable source that the former First Lady was beaten to coma by her husband for daring to query him over his reason for selling one of their properties in Abuja to support his re-election bid without her consent.

But, speaking to journalists in Owerri, the former First Lady vowed to drag any media outfit that publish negative materials against her person or any member of her family to the courts.

Her two page statement which was obtained by 247ureports.com reads in part: “This time around we will not sit by and allow nonentities destroy our reputation as they did while we were busy serving the State”.

Mrs. Ohakim described such reports as wicked and malicious against her and one targeted at eroding the unity of her family.

She said she has been happily married for thirty four years plus to her husband with five grown up children and by God’s grace they are both grandparents.

The statement continues, “At no time, years back and even now did any such incident (of beating) happen, because His Excellency Dr.Ikedi Ohakim is not a violent man even to enemies.

“I have never at anytime queried my husband over any purported sale of property because he did not sell any property anywhere, anytime and for whatever reason. I hereby challenge anyone who believes otherwise to publish the number and address of the said purported sold property that led to the beating.

“The story is concocted lies aimed at causing disaffection against my family in the eyes of the public.

“For avoidance of doubt, my husband, Dr.Ohakim did not, has not and will never attack me physically. It never happened and by the grace of God will never happen.

“My husband is not a man given to violence, if anything, his greatest strength which sometimes could be painful, is his civility. He is a gentleman personified, God fearing, humane, and a bridge builder.

“I am taking pains to explain this because I cherish and respect him for his mature ways of handling issues no matter whose ox is gored and also for the fact that this negative strategy was heavily deployed by agents of Satan to cause disaffection for my husband and I against the public even when we were in government.

“Since we left office in May 2011, we have busied ourselves with our family, careers and philanthropic responsibilities.

“It is also not true that I have been in coma as a result of such alleged beatings and neither was I flown abroad for treatment. Interestingly,I have not stepped outside the shores of Nigeria since October 2014. You can peruse my international passport to confirm.

“Let me use this platform to appeal to all lovers of family and godly values to disregard such malicious reports. They are propagated by people who hate peace, love and family values. People who are intimidated by our modest achievements and rising profile. Hence they are hell- bent on concocting wickedness just to make us go under! But our god is alive.

“As a wife and mother, I appeal to the media to please cross check every information before publishing to avoid being soaked into unnecessary litigation. You must resist being used as instruments of destroying decades of hardwork and commitment to sound moral-values by my family.

“Our politics in Imo State is gradually going out of gear. Politics of issues is gradually giving away to politics of both character and physical assassination. People are becoming too desperate. These must be condemned by all well –meaning people including men of God”.
