The Udom/Moses 2015 Campaign Organization condemns in strongest terms the incendiary attack on the convoy of His Excellency Governor Godswill Akpabio(CON), Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the state PDP Governorship Candidate Mr Udom Emmanuel by alleged APC-hired thugs this evening as the convoy was heading back to Uyo, following a hugely successful campaign rally in Oron and Urueffong Oruko Local Government Areas.
We have consistently stated that the resort to violence as an avenue to assert political statements should be eschewed. We made a solemn pledge to run a campaign of ideas that clearly articulates our policy thrusts and blueprint for industrialization, job growth, human capacity building- all placed on the plank of sustainable development. This has been our message since we flag-off our campaign last week, and the good people of Akwa Ibom having endorsed our message, give us impetus through the mammoth crowds that turn up at our campaign rallies.
We expect the opposition and their waged savages to tell the good people of Akwa Ibom state what plans they have for them, in addition to its stock in trade of barefaced lies, blackmail, vile rhetoric, thuggery and violence. We deploy this approach strongly.
These rabble-rousers having been disappointed by the large turnout of Oron people and their unequivocal support to the election of Mr Udom Emmanuel as the next governor of the state, as was beamed live on the AKBC Television and via internet on www.livestream.com, decided to go violent by employing hooligans to rain pellets on the victorious train.
That this latest attack is coming on the heels of earlier attacks by the APC supporters on the PDP Presidential Candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan during his separation campaign visits to Katsina and Bauchi States, calls for more questions than answers. Although we agree that there are several ways of gaining the support of the masses; we believe certainly that throwing stones and other objects at the convoy of your perceived political opponents is not one of such means.
Once again, our profound gratitude goes to the good people of Oron and Urueffong Oruko for their support and encouragement to our course.
Finally we pray for quick recovery to all those injured by the hoodlums, and advise our teaming supporters all over the state to remain calm and law-abiding as the law enforcement agents are on course to maintain law and order throughout the transition programme.
