The lingering cold war between Anambra state chapters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA and All Progressives Congress APC depends today following the insistence by the APC that the progressives are not working together.
Recall that Governor Charles Soludo of APGA had since the two visits of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the First Lady Sen Oluremi Tinubu to Anambra state has continued to state that the two progressive parties are working together to reelect Tinubu for the second term in office.
At the Anambra Central Senatorial District stakeholders meeting of the APC in Awka convened by its candidate Sen Uche Ekwunife, the Deputy National Chairman of the party Dr Ben Okoye contended that the mantra of progressives working together is a falasy adding that members should vote for all the APC candids from the Senate to the state Assembly.
“We have one APC , so in this coming election , it is four over four because Anambra is not taking part in the Gubernatorial election”
“We must shine our eyes and the story of progressives working together is a falasy and it doesn’t exist anywhere”
“It is either you are with us or you are against us so please let us not make that mistake and tell all our members that the only way we can benefit as APC members is for us to elect our own people”
“We shall start on the 16th of January and elect our candidates for Senate, Federal House of Representatives and state Assembly”
“We have to vote for all of them , we have to vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu , we have to vote for Asuwaju for us to be part of the government at the top “
“There have been situations where some people use tricks to deny us of federal appointments in the name of progressives working together and we are in this election put a stop to all of that “
“That mantra of progressives working together is a falasy and it is not through because there is nothing like the progressives working together ” he said.
Speaking earlier the Convener Senator Uche Ekwunife described the idea of some members marketing candidates from other political parties as unethical and and act of saboutage against the party contending that one cannot have a good product and abandon it to sell another person’s product.
“Political parties are the platforms that we use to contest elections and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria makes it clear that you cannot contest elections without going through political parties”
“You cannot be in a political party and you work against your party because it is unethical, it is anti party and it is unfair”
Ekwunife noted that ; “Everyone is selling his or her political party and if you have a product to sale you go and keep it in the warehouse and start selling another person’s product it is not proper and it is unacceptable and you are killing yourself and that party is not selling your product but their own products and we can’t sell their products for them and this is the mistake so many political parties made in 2023 to their own peril “.
“They ended up throwing up people who are incompetent and cannot do anything and go to the National Assembly, do you still have a voice ? “
“Nobody can fool us today and in the coming election it is APC , top to bottom and bottom to top”
“This is because no party is selling me and I cannot support somebody that is not selling me “
“We are in APC and we will vote for APC top to bottom and bottom to up it is as simple as that ” she stated .
Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Bar Emeka Okafor also reaffirmed the position of the party in Anambra state when he described the idea of progressives working together as a constant ploy that has been used to shortchange the party adding that what the party should have been benefiting is being hijacked by other political parties in the guys of progressives working together.
“Yes we are here to support all our candidates and that idea of the progressives working together is what they have been using to shortchange us and it will not happen again”
For Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife we have confidence in her that she would surely deliver and she has been there and while she was there , she did not disappoint us and she will never disappoint us and is the case with all our candidates in Anambra state because we have a good and winning team ” he said .
