The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the purported approval given to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi by a section of the State House of Assembly to access the remaining N19 billion in the State reserve funds is a mere cover-up for all the State funds embezzled and diverted for personal and All Progressives Congress, APC interests by the governor.
The PDP in a statement by the State Chairman of the party, Bro Felix Obuah and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam said the way and manner Governor Amaechi is going about the purported withdraws with no evidence of what he spent the previous ones on, leaves no one in doubt that such reserved funds never existed ab initio.
Should Governor Amaechi insist he is not being unnecessarily smart and fooling the people, the PDP demands, he should be bold enough to make public the banks used for the transactions and the details of such savings and withdrawals.
Besides, the PDP further observes, there can’t be as much as all these billions of naira in the State reserve funds yet Amaechi kept complaining that the State was broke and stagnating all developmental projects previously initiated.
The truth is that he used all the State money to pursue the numerous court cases against him and his acolytes, sponsoring campaigns against President Goodluck Jonathan which caused him heavily through frequent travels and meetings, honorariums to his army of visiting fake supporters from the North and West. He has incurred irretrievable debts which can only be covered by such fraudulent illegal approvals by his accomplice lawmakers,” the PDP alleged.
The party further recalls that only about four months ago was Amaechi given a similar approval to access over N30 billion from same reserve funds allegedly for completion of ongoing projects which only he, and his authorizing lawmakers know where they are located which is yet to be accounted for before getting another round of approval.
The PDP believes the only rationale for the current purported approval is to use the remnants in the State treasury to pay for Gen Muhammadu Buhari’s fee for the APC Presidential ticket which Amaechi is seriously lobbying to be paired as his running mate.
“Unfortunately, he is wasting his time because he will be betrayed again but before he realizes this he would have mortgaged the entire State,” the PDP regretted.
